Customer Review Summary
Pizza is the most frequent draw, with reviewers calling it nice and very nice, though one found it nothing memorable. Others single out the meatballs, anchovies and seafood linguine. The aubergine parmigiana drew the sharpest complaints, described as tough and rubbery, with a manager refusing a replacement or bill adjustment. A lasagne missing its sheets also went unresolved, and the tables felt cramped for a family of four.

“Lovely meal and fabulous attentive service by Elsie. Lovely atmosphere and fabulous food. Sea food linguine packed with seafood. Had 3 courses for 2 people and a bottle of wine for less than £50 per head. We picked this restaurant as was dog friendly. Would definitely recommend.”

“My husband ordered the Aubergine Parmigiana, a dish traditionally known for being soft and delicate. It was spongy, tough, and possessed the texture of a leather boot. When my husband pointed out that the aubergine was entirely unchewable, the manager inspected the plate and flatly informed us it was ‘cooked properly.’ She refused to offer an alternative, a discount, or an apology, leaving us to pay full price for a vegetable that belonged in a tire factory. Comical really because offering literally any alternative or suggestion would have saved them this awful review! To round out the evening, my pasta was undeniably cheap, boiled packet pasta masquerading as restaurant cooking. If you enjoy paying money to gnaw on rubber while a manager lectures you on texture, this place is unbeatable. Otherwise, stay home.”

“We visited La Trattoria for our wedding anniversary, sadly the cookery of one of the main dishes was exceptionally poor, and the customer service was even worse. I ordered the aubergine parmigiana. When it arrived, the aubergine was woefully undercooked. It was tough and rubbery and not soft and melt-in-the-mouth as aubergine parmigiana should be. I informed the manager of the restaurant who took it back to the kitchen. They didn’t come back to the table to provide an update or bring the dish back (while my wife carried on eating). I went back up to the bar I was told that there was nothing wrong with the dish and that was what it was meant to taste like. When I politely pointed out that the aubergine was tough and rubbery (ie undercooked), they doubled down and told me that I was wrong and that they had tested the temperature and that because it was 73 degrees, it was cooked. The aubergine was drowning in a (very) hot sauce and so I have no doubt that it was 73 degrees, but that did not mean that the dish was properly cooked. When I asked if they could give me another dish, I was told I’d have to pay for it. I’ve eaten aubergine parmigiana many, many times before and this was by far and away the very worst I’ve ever had - utterly disgusting. The pasta dish which my wife had was clearly shop bought pasta, not freshly made pasta. At that point, we decided to cut our losses, pay for the meal which was edible, and leave. The manager then proceeded to tender the bill with the undercooked main meal on it and refused to remove it from the bill (“company policy” was to charge the customer however bad the food is). I explained that I was not prepared to pay for under / badly cooked food, but the manager refused to remove it from the bill. The tone adopted was patronising and unkind, instead making the chefs poor cookery my problem. Whilst it is disappointing that the main was so badly cooked, the service was the biggest issue here. Had the manager had some grace and accepted that there was an issue with the dish and provided me with an alternative dish, the experience would have been considerably better. However, we ultimately left the restaurant having paid for a single edible main that was cooked using mediocre quality shop bought pasta. The manager was exceptionally rude and unhelpful, and the chef probably needs to go and try some authentic Italian dishes at a better restaurant.”
