About Lost Barn Coffee Roasters

Lost Barn Coffee Roasters is a cafe and coffee roastery at Old Hall Farm in Malpas, Cheshire, where the open-plan layout lets visitors watch the beans being roasted. The roastery sells single origin and signature blend coffees through its website and to wholesale customers, and the farm shop on site stocks beans and blends to take away. In the kitchen, the brunch menu includes Turkish eggs and scrambled eggs with chorizo on sourdough, while the counter holds fresh cakes and almond croissants. Orders are placed at the counter, and dogs are welcome. Barra Brith and gluten-free options sit among the baked goods.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return for the coffee above all, describing a brilliant flat white and bags of beans taken home from the roastery, with some noting the open plan lets them watch the roasting. Food comes close behind, with Turkish eggs, scrambled eggs with chorizo on sourdough, Barra Brith, almond croissants and fresh cakes all named, plus gluten-free choices. The rural setting, dog-friendly welcome, outdoor space for kids and farm shop also come up, and one reviewer was given an impromptu tour by an owner. Staff are described as friendly and quick. The criticisms are small but specific. One reviewer found the coffee on the sour side, with the extraction too quick, and another felt the lighter notes were not as obvious as they could be. One says getting a table can be difficult, and another felt staff were too busy for conversation. A reviewer who took two almond croissants home called them delicious.

“First time here and want to go again. Great choice of different coffees, not just the usual selection. Menu is also comprehensive with items that are a bit different. Getting a table can be difficult. Service was great”

“An excellent and authentic little venue. Coffee options are amazing and ethically and responsibly prepared. The site also hosts a small farm shop with some great items. Plenty of options for roasted and blended coffees to take away. Outdoor area for kids to play whilst you enjoy the food, the drinks and the peaceful surroundings. Well worth a visit. There’s plenty of parking and EV charging at a really good rate.”

“Amazing coffee. Amazing spot. Super friendly owner who explained more about coffee than I’ve known in my life. Do yourself a favour and make sure you pop in!!”

“We stopped by Lost Barn while staying at Carden Park - looking for a decent coffee rather than something out of a machine. This place is an absolute find. Coffee was outstanding. Venue was uber friendly with lots of space for kids to roam around. Gorgeous farm shop on site too. One of the owners came out and even gave us an impromptu tour. This place has some awesome plans for glamping too. If you're driving through this area, highly recommended dropping in. If your staying at Carden Park its a beautiful 20 min walk down some quiet lane ways. Definitely beats the breakfast buffet coffee!”

“This place is well worth seeking out. The setting is lovely — relaxed, rural, and dog-friendly — and the coffee is genuinely exceptional. Multiple Great Taste Award winner, and you can taste why. Had a brilliant flat white and picked up a bag of beans to take home. Food is great too — fresh cakes, decent savoury options, and good gluten-free choices. Staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. If you're anywhere near Malpas or the Chester/Wrexham area, make the detour.”
