About Sarang Restaurant - Authentic Korean BBQ

On Finchley Rd, Sarang Restaurant serves Korean barbecue with a tabletop grilling setup, and the BBQ set comes with the meat cooked at the table by staff. Beyond the grill, the menu runs through bibimbop, hot pots, and mul naengmyeon alongside bibim-naengmyeon for those wanting cold noodles. Cheese kimchi fried rice and tteokbokki, including a cheese version with rice cakes, sit alongside padak for anyone after Korean fried chicken. Side dishes accompany meals, and soju is on offer alongside yuzu and plum or grapefruit iced teas. Chocolate cake rounds out the dessert options. The restaurant opens daily, and reservations are recommended ahead of a visit.

Customer Review Summary

The BBQ set draws the most repeat orders, with reviewers describing tender, well-marinated meat cooked tableside by staff, often paired with mul-naengmyeon for its cold, refreshing broth. Close behind, the cheese kimchi fried rice and cheese tteokbokki come up repeatedly as standouts, along with padak and samgyeopsal, and several mention pairing meals with yuzu or plum tea and soju. Staff are called attentive and friendly across many visits, and the setting is described as cozy and lively. A recurring caveat centers on inconsistency: one reviewer found the yangnyeom chicken more like ketchup-coated takeaway chicken with an odd almond-flake topping and an unusually salty soondubu jjigae, while another had meat mostly overcooked when the whole order hit the grill at once, and a separate visit found the chicken and pork BBQ poor along with stale chocolate cake reported to staff. Despite these complaints, most describe returning or planning to return, with several praising the BBQ set specifically as the reason.

“Too good - will definitely be back. Went with friends, had the barbeque and lots of sides. Feels local, quality is excellent - high quality food and prices and super service - very professional. Best Korean I've been to in London. Leftovers were delicious even the next day - not too salty or oily, just quality and flavoursome”

“Went to Sarang for dinner and the food was yum! We ordered a BBQ set, kimchi fried rice, kimchi jeon and some fried chicken. The service was really good, the staff are very friendly and very quick to provide you with anything you need. Would definitely recommend!”
  • Sanjay S
“Good food. I had pork Bibimbap (printed Dolsot in the bill, cost 11) which was served in a hot metal (not stone as per the waitress). And we have to add the red spicy sauce and mix it. She did that and served it. Also had a zuzu cold tea (cost 4) which had orange peels and was sweet and salty. Overall costed 16.5 inclusive of the 10% service charge.”
