About Etsu
Etsu is a Japanese restaurant at 25 The Strand in Liverpool, with a light wood dining room set up for sushi and specialty meat and fish dishes. The sushi side of the menu covers sashimi and hand rolls, with the Unagi roll as one named option. From the kitchen, a black cod special comes in miso sauce, and a seasonal fish stew is also on the menu. The drinks list includes Kirin Ichiban beer. The restaurant also runs a section on site that sells Japanese beer, ingredients and kitchen appliances, so guests can stock a home kitchen after a meal.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the authentic Japanese food and its freshness, with sushi, sashimi and hand rolls named repeatedly, and the nigiri and unagi roll singled out too. Close behind is the black cod in miso sauce, described as melting in the mouth, along with crunchy tempura and a crispy katsu curry. Desserts such as sesame and matcha ice creams and apple gyoza with yuzu sorbet get praise, as do the sakura cocktail, the melon soda and a pint of Kirin Ichiban. Service is described as friendly, speedy and attentive, with servers helping diners choose dishes, and solo diners say they were made to feel welcome. The main reservation is modest: one reviewer found the black cod portion not huge, and another felt the seasonal fish stew paired poorly with tempura, which they called too heavy together. One reviewer also notes a section selling Japanese beer and ingredients, and a late-arriving solo diner was still greeted warmly as the restaurant wound down.

“Went in early, mid week, table for one. Service was excellent. Couldn't decide what to have so took waitress's recommendation (black cod in miso sauce). Was gorgeous. Accompanied by a pint of Kirin Ichiban. Not a huge portion but flavour was fab. Will definitely come back next time im in town. Thanks!”

“Authentic Japanese food. I love the melon soda – it’s such a refreshing drink for the summer. Everything I tried was lovely, but I wouldn’t recommend my particular combination! The seasonal fish stew would definitely be better paired with something a bit lighter and more refreshing rather than tempura.”

“A fantastic experience at Etsu! Everything we ordered was super fresh and delicious, just great food! The service was top tier and our waiter (whose name we unfortunately did not get) was very friendly and helped us choose some dishes. Everybody there was extremely attentive and the atmosphere was lovely. So much choice on the menu which is great. Love this place will definitely return when in the area”
