Quick info
About Hoiana Restaurant
Hoiana Restaurant is a Vietnamese restaurant and bar in Leeds, at 1 Saw Mill Yard, where Hainanese-style chicken rice sits on the menu alongside the Vietnamese dishes. That gives diners a rice plate to choose instead of a noodle bowl. Pho comes in several versions, including a Hue spicy beef pho, and fresh spring rolls open the starter list. The kitchen also cooks vegan starters and mains, plus gluten-free and vegetarian options. Mains are served without rice, which is added on separately. The dining room is decorated with colorful lanterns and a mural of Vietnam on the wall. Street parking nearby is limited, and a car park is a short walk away.

“At Hoiana, we bring the vibrant and authentic flavors of Vietnamese cuisine to Leeds. Inspired by the charm and rich history of Hoi An, an ancient town located in central Vietnam, our restaurant and bar offers a unique dining experience. With both inside and outside seating options, you can enjoy the fresh, healthy dishes we proudly serve, including a variety of gluten-free and vegetarian options. Located just steps away from the River Aire and a few minutes’ walk from the city center, Hoiana is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy an unforgettable meal.”

Customer Review Summary
Pho is the most frequent draw, from a Hue spicy beef bowl with a good kick to a beef brisket pho whose meat fell apart with no chewiness, plus a mixed pho. Close behind is the Hoiana chicken rice, which one reviewer found so good and another found tasty but not the same as in Hoi An. Also named are pork ribs, shaken beef, a fragrant chicken curry, chicken skewers with peanut sauce, chilli lemongrass flat rice noodles and a fresh iced tea. Reviewers praise the lanterns and Vietnam mural, the music that is not too loud, the vegan options and the generous portions. Several describe friendly staff who steered them toward dishes suited to their spice level. Complaints centre on service and logistics. One diner felt a server sounded disappointed when they skipped a starter, and another waited on an iced coffee despite repeatedly asking. One notes that rice is ordered separately, and another says street parking is hard to find. The same diner who felt rushed over starters was told a dessert menu was coming, and it never arrived.

As Vietnamese people, my parents and I really appreciated how authentic and delicious everything was. “Have been here twice and it's always a lovely trip. Really friendly staff (they even offered to take a photo for me and my friends). The food is so good, I've tried the Hoiana chicken rice and the Chilli lemongrass flat rice noodles, and a couple of the starters. Some great vegan starters and mains options if you are looking for variety. Would highly recommend! Everyone I've been with also really enjoyed their food. The traditional coffee is also very tasty. First time I went was with friends and a young toddler. Staff were able to accommodate us even during a busy weekend lunchtime. Lovely place, worth a short walk outside of the city centre.”

Thank you to Chi who looked after us and as we are going to Vietnam next year we have promised to come back before and after the trip. A fantastic restaurant and we will be back as there are so many dishes i still want to try Lee Nicole and Emily”
