About Hong Kong Chef

Hong Kong Chef is a Chinese takeaway at 133 Wide Ln in Leeds, built around a Cantonese menu with Thai and Malaysian options alongside it, so one order can draw on more than one cooking style. Chicken curry with boiled rice sits on the menu next to salt and pepper chicken, which also comes as a share box. A set meal for 2 lets two people choose two main dishes between them. The takeaway opens evenings only, Tuesday to Sunday, and closes on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers are split, and the strongest praise centres on food that arrives hot and fresh from delivery. Fans single out the king prawn curry and the squid dish from a set meal for two, with one saying they could taste ginger, garlic and Cantonese spices. Others name the chicken fried rice, soft noodles, curry sauce with a little kick, and excellent onion rings, and mention large portions, a fair price and an extensive menu that includes Thai and Malaysian options.

“Quick service, however I attempted to eat the salt and pepper share box... emphasis on attempted. Calling it a "share box" is generous, because I wouldn't even share it with my animals. The shredded beef tasted like someone seasoned a bag of flour and hoped for the best. The salt and pepper chicken was so rock hard I'm convinced it could've been used to patch all the potholes around Morley. The chips were so overcooked they could've doubled as garden gravel, and as for the beef in black bean it had the texture of an old rubber flip-flop dipped in a thick, tasteless sauce. I will add though, the only thing fresh about it was the peppers! Honestly, I don't mind paying for a takeaway when it's good, but this was genuinely one of the worst I've had. Funny in hindsight, disappointing at the time. Save your money and your teeth!!”

“Ordered what should be a simple and quick meal. A Chicken Curry and Boiled Rice. I’ll ask Hong Kong Chef - Do you fry the chicken as I would expect or do you simply boil it ?? The chicken in the curry was utterly horrific and tasted as I was eating Jelly !! Was I eating Chicken skin ? The very WORST Chinese food I’ve ever had. Even whenever I attempt to cook a Chinese meal at home at least I use proper chicken that enters the pan as raw chicken and comes out as cooked chicken !! What I was served was Jelly Chicken and Congealed Rice !! ( PS - I had a hell of a job separating the rice grains from its glued construction”

“I'm a regular customer at Hong Kong chef, but I won't be ordering from here again. The curry was like water, the chicken fried rice was solid like it had been left in a fridge over night and reheated. Really disappointed with the quality of food.”

“This place never fails, I use hong kong chef everytime I want Cantonese food, and I've never been let down, from delivery to the food being hot when arrived and the quality of the food, last night I ordered a set meal for 2, I chose 2 main dishes and I must say the king prawn curry and the squid dish I ordered were some of the best I've tasted, this place is a takeaway with takeaway prices that are under what they should be as the food is restaurant quality, could taste ginger, garlic and other Cantonese spices which means it was not poorly made I highly recommend anyone in the area should use this place”
