Customer Review Summary
The main complaint is waiting. One diner reports a wait of over an hour when busy, with cold bacon and sausage sandwiches, and another mentions a slow service line. Others add that the ice cream portions were small, covered outdoor seating is limited, and weeds block the river view. One reviewer calls the food fairly average, and another notes that outside tables must order at the till.

“Had heard good reports of the kitchen, so decided to try it for lunch. The was a reasonable choice of food and drink. The food was good. Being busy there was a reasonable wait but not excessive. The service you get depends on whether you sit inside or out, e.g. if outside you need to place you order at the till.”

“Really lovely cafe with equally lovely staff. The decor was gorgeous too, so already off to a good start! I had the veggie English brekkie and it absolutely delivered. Beautifully poached eggs, gloriously crispy hash browns, juicy tomatoes and delicious veggie sausages, alongside the classic baked beans and generously buttered toast. A proper feel-good breakfast.”

“This is an okay place with some nice views of the river and easy access to the park, which has a lovely riverside walk and great views. It’s a good spot to stop for lunch after your walk, which is what we did. There are some decent options, including paninis, flatbreads, and wraps. I tried the classic cheeseburger, and it was good. Overall, the food is fairly average, so I’d mainly recommend this place for a quick lunch stop.”

“Have used this little gem a few times now especially on a Sunday morning walk with the dog and haven’t got any real complaints, the food has always been great, the service swift and friendly staff, and with the outdoor area, especially if you have dogs, ideal. They do allow dogs in side also, but the seating next to river is particularly pleasant. Be very mindful when they are busy as wait times can exceed over a hour. Food is cooked fresh on site but today’s experience left us feeling a little underwhelmed sorry. Bacon and sausage sandwiches were cold and we waited well over and hour from point of ordering to actual eating. Maybe a one off, but they do do exceedingly nice cakes also.”

“Not happy today, staff don't seem happy, if a tad grumpy. Slow when processing orders and seem unfamiliar with systems. Ice cream portions are super small under 75g I expect at least 100g / serving. Needs more outdoor covered space especially in this heat, and cut the weeds down so you can actually see the river. A good selection of cold drinks and nice selection of brought in bakes, could be more in house. Really nice building structure and history. I'd go elsewhere next time. Could do better?”
