About Hickory's Smokehouse Wall Heath
Hickory's Smokehouse Wall Heath is a barbecue restaurant in Kingswinford, at The Kingfisher, with a cinema room and a kids' games room alongside the smokehouse. The pitmasters smoke the brisket for 16 hours, and the menu also lists bourbon ribs, with mac and cheese and maple buttered cornbread on the side. Menus are styled like a newspaper, and the interior follows an American Southern theme with country music playing. Free popcorn and water go on the table when guests arrive, and birthday tables get a personalised message and a doughnut brought out with singing. Drinks include a mallow old fashioned, a root beer float and a cherry cream soda. A private dining room is available for groups, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly staff and birthday celebrations come up most, with servers asking about special occasions and then bringing a birthday doughnut, a personalised message on the table or a cake with dessert. The food is backed too. The bourbon ribs, brisket, burgers and mac and cheese are singled out, and one diner would order the mac and cheese as a main. Drinks draw praise as well, including the grape soda, blueberry lemonade, cherry cream soda, a mallow old fashioned and a root beer float. Families mention the cinema room and games for children, plus popcorn and water placed on the table. Reviewers also describe a well-themed interior with country music, and a porch where blankets are provided. The criticism is milder and about the food. One diner found it standard despite a well-cooked brisket, and a vegetarian wanted more smoky flavour in the veggie burger and found the maple cornbread closer to sponge cake. Several note the place was busy yet food still arrived hot, and one family was handed a sample taste of brisket at the table.

“We go to Hickory‘s regularly, however today the experience was exceptional. We went for our 13th year anniversary and we had the usual food, which was amazing, as usual. However, the service today was extra special. Every team member who visited the table was really friendly and asked about us. Wishing us a happy day. However, Coreylee visited the table with the aim to make our day extra special. He made a paper rose before we even arrived and set it at the table and went above and beyond with no intention other than he truely cared. We had the opportunity to make our own cocktails (supervised by Coreylee as we certainly needed his guidance) and created drinks that incorporated his own recipes so we could have the same drink with either Malibu or Vodka. Now we have never gone behind the bar before or made a cocktail professionally, but our day was made extra special with our competitive race to produce the best drink and a cake with our desserts to celebrate. A huge shout out to Corylee today for making our anniversary, on a Thursday night, one to remember ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️”

“Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Asked if we we're celebrating any special occasions and they surprised us with a birthday treat. Food arrived quickly and hot. Highly recommend The Bird in the Heard 👌🏽 Mallow old fashioned and root beer float. Will definitely be going back.”

“I wasn’t expecting a huge amount of choice as a vegetarian, but I was pleasantly surprised. There were three or four vegetarian mains on the menu, along with plenty of veggie-friendly sides, so it didn’t feel like an afterthought. The drinks were excellent. We tried the grape soda, blueberry lemonade and cherry cream soda, and all three were really refreshing and full of flavour. My veggie burger was good, with plenty going on thanks to the mushroom, cheese and hash brown, but I would have liked the smoky flavour to come through more strongly to really tie it all together. For sides we had the maple buttered cornbread and the mac and cheese. The cornbread had an interesting texture, almost like sponge cake, but the flavour was nice. The mac and cheese was excellent and easily something I’d order again, even as a main course. The waiting staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, with that welcoming American-style service that suits the restaurant perfectly. The atmosphere was great too, with a well-themed interior and music that really complemented the overall experience. There were also lots of people celebrating birthdays while we were there, which added to the lively atmosphere. It was a nice touch that birthday tables had a personalised birthday message waiting for them, and the team brought out a birthday doughnut while singing, which made the celebrations feel fun without being over the top. Overall, I’d definitely come back. Not necessarily because the food completely blew me away, but because the service and atmosphere made it a genuinely enjoyable place to spend an evening.”

“The location was lovely and set up was good. The stars are definitely for the staff - professional, friendly and helpful. The food, though cooked well (the brisket was superbly cooked) was not all that great - I would say pretty much standard and not worth the price. I only say that because I don't find American food to my taste and could think of better uses for the ingredients to make a tastier meal worth going out for. This by no means reflects the chefs skills - I'm only referring to the type of food. I was invited to a birthday held there so it wasn't my personal choice. Having said that, there was a movie room for the kids and a games room so lots to occupy restless children in this heat wave. The tables were set out well to accommodate semi private conversations and the noise levels were minimal considering how busy it was. It was more or less a full house, which tells me a lot of people do enjoy that type of food. Can't say enough about the staff...great service and they were all (had contact with at least 4 staff) professional and helpful - if I could give more stars for this alone, I would! Obviously staff training is a priority here.”
