About Siaway Fish & Chips
Siaway Fish & Chips is a fish & chips restaurant on the Isle Of Skye, on Shore Road, with views over Applecross and Lochcarron. The fish is battered with Highland spring water and cooked in beef dripping, and every order is fried fresh. Fish and chips come in two sizes, and the fryer menu extends to haggis, sausages and ribs. Gluten-free orders get separate frying oil, and the kitchen also caters to vegetarian and vegan diners. The restaurant works mostly as a takeaway, with a few seats inside and no proper tables. A wait is common when it gets busy. Early in the day, the counter serves freshly made hot and cold filled rolls alongside barista-style coffee.

Customer Review Summary
Crispy fish and chips draw the most praise, with reviewers calling the fish fresh, crispy and full of flavour, and the portions generous. The chips get a mixed reception, described as okay by one reviewer and quite good by another. Close behind, one reviewer singles out the haggis, and a family says the kids loved the chicken bites. Several note that everything is fried, from sausages to hamburger patties and ribs, and that it works as a takeaway with only a few seats. Service is mostly described as friendly, kind and quick, and one diner appreciated the separate oil for gluten free orders. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the kebab wrap inedible, brown and salty, and ate only the tortilla and salad. Another found the staff rude after not being told the fish came in two sizes before being charged for the biggest. One felt the atmosphere was heavy and unwelcoming, and another says latecomers within 20 minutes of closing are not let in. Still, one reviewer was glad to find a chippy open after 5pm and waited through a busy evening.

“Siaway Fish and Chips: A Feast Worthy of Song and Legend There are establishments that merely satisfy the hunger of the passing traveller, and there are those rare and noble houses of refreshment whose praises deserve to be sung by minstrels, recorded by chroniclers, and carried upon the winds to the furthest reaches of the kingdom. Siaway Fish and Chips, I am delighted to declare, belongs most assuredly to the latter company. Upon my recent visit, I discovered a standard of fare that would have gladdened the heart of Sir William Wallace himself, and perhaps persuaded even the most battle-weary Highland warrior to lay aside his claymore in favour of a well-earned supper. The food was of exceptional quality. The fish, prepared with evident care and skill, was a triumph of the culinary art, whilst the chips were worthy companions to such noble fare. Each mouthful brought its own satisfaction, and the whole was delivered with a generosity of spirit that speaks volumes for the establishment. Yet, dear reader, I must pause to pay particular homage to a dish that deserves a place in the annals of Scottish gastronomy: the beautiful haggis. Ah, the haggis! Here was no humble offering to be dismissed as a mere accompaniment, but a glorious creation worthy of the Highlands themselves. Possessing that unmistakable character which has sustained generations of Scots, it stood as a tribute to the ancient traditions of the north. Robert Burns himself, were he to rise from his slumber and partake of this splendid delicacy, might well be moved to compose another immortal ode. Indeed, I suspect that even the ghost of Rob Roy MacGregor would surrender his mountain retreat for the pleasure of such a feast. Nor must I neglect the excellent company of those who brought these delights to the table. The staff were both remarkably efficient and genuinely friendly, conducting their duties with a pleasing combination of speed, courtesy and good humour. Orders were handled with admirable precision, and customers were treated not as strangers passing through, but as welcome guests beneath a hospitable roof. Such qualities, alas, are not universal in this hurried age, and their presence here deserves the warmest commendation. In truth, Siaway Fish and Chips exemplifies the finest virtues of a good eating house: excellent food, fair and efficient service, and an atmosphere in which the customer feels valued. It is a place where quality is not sacrificed to haste, nor kindness abandoned in the pursuit of business. Were I to wander the rugged hills of Scotland, cross the misty passes of the Highlands, or journey through the kingdoms of old, I would count myself fortunate indeed to discover such an establishment at the end of my travels. My verdict is unequivocal: Siaway Fish and Chips is an establishment of the highest order, and its haggis deserves particular fame. I commend it most heartily to all who appreciate fine fish and chips, splendid Scottish fare, and service delivered with genuine warmth. May its fryers burn brightly for many years to come, may its staff continue to welcome travellers with such good cheer, and may that magnificent haggis never be absent from its noble offerings! Ten out of ten, without reservation. A feast worthy of legend!”

“Food was cooked fresh to order and tasted good. The atmosphere was a little heavy though which made it feel unwelcoming.”

“It’s fried. Like all of it. Sausages, hamburger patties, ribs…everything. Now that being said, it was all pretty good still! Kids loved the chicken bites and the service had good attention to detail. Quick as well when you’re in a hurry. Not many seats, more of a take out sorta place.”

“Kebab... apparently ! The most disgusting thing I've ever been served. Inedible, brown, salty foam which had never met a lamb. Not even in a pitta, I ended up eating the tortilla wrap with the little bit of salad which was in it 🤮”

“Fish was tasty until I find some hair in it. I swear my hair is black so it is 100% not mine. Also, if you want buy some food here, please arrive at least 20 minutes before closing, otherwise they will not let you in.”
