Customer Review Summary
Fresh sushi and sashimi draw the most praise, with diners naming the tuna toro sashimi, the ebi tempura maki and a yellowtail sushi with black tobiko on red vinegar rice that one reviewer calls rare and authentic. Close behind are the hot dishes: ramen, mazesoba, bao buns, gyoza and golden wings, with a crème brûlée matcha to finish. Reviewers also mention Japanese cocktails, kirin on tap and a yuzu sake. The small room is repeatedly described as cosy, and the staff as friendly and helpful with suggestions even when busy. One reviewer notes plenty of vegan options. The main complaint comes from a busy Saturday family visit, where one ramen arrived and the rest of a party of six waited a further half hour for sushi platters. The owner refused a request for a shared plate of bao buns as compensation, and the reviewer objected to the service charge. In a separate account, staff found the kitchen had missed an order and offered a free drink.

“Had a lovely dinner there. Food was incredibly fresh and tasty. Best sushi in Ipswich hands down. The restaurant is very small (I believe it seats 25 people max), so service was easy and friendly. Would highly recommend.”

“Hidden Gem in Ipswich! If you're looking for authentic Japanese sushi in Ipswich, this place is an absolute correct choice. The sashimi was fresh and literally melted in mouth. One thing that really stood out was that they use akazu (red vinegar) sushi rice which is rare and gives the sushi an authentic flavour. The yellowtail sushi combines perfectly seasoned rice, buttery yellowtail, and crunchy black tobiko created amazing layers of flavour and texture. It was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The restaurant itself has a lovely Japanese atmosphere, and the owner brought back an impressive collection of Japanese figures and decorations from Japan. If you're a Dragon Ball fan, you'll absolutely love browsing around while you dine.”

“Such a shame. I have eaten at Bushido several times before and previously have only had very pleasant experiences. However, I feel I must leave a review as my most recent visit was not up to par. I came here for a family birthday, and the rest of my party (total of 6 people) ordered starters, and then combo sushi platters for mains. I ordered a starter and then the ramen. The food itself was genuinely lovely, the issue was that my ramen arrived and the rest of my party was waiting a further half an hour for their sushi platters. 30 minutes. For (mostly) raw fish. I had completely finished my dinner and then some before their dinners arrived. Genuinely, if you are aware as a kitchen that one (or most!) of the dishes won't be ready for another 40 minutes because yes, it's Saturday night and it's busy, you need to hold ALL the food until you can get everything ready, not send one main disn to the table and not provide any explanation to the people who are paying to be there. We mentioned this to the server, who said he would speak with the owner, as we requested to potentially have one order of bao buns to split amongst the party as compensation for the timing issue. The owner refused this, and we paid for our meals and left, deeply dissatisfied and disappointed with our experience. This was a special family birthday that we had hoped to go to a nice restaurant that we had frequented before, but now I am not rushing back. The cheek of also putting the service charge our bill after all of that was astonishing! Such a shame.”

“Visiting Ipswich, this Sushi and Izakaya caught my eye and I had one of the best mazesoba ever! Situated in the centre of Ipswich, this small and cosy spot has loads of character inside. There are about 20 or so seats. They offer a range of dishes one would expect at an Izakaya. They also have kirin on tap. The golden wings were very good indeed and perfectly cooked. The sashimi comes from Japan and Spain. Mine was lovely. Despite being super busy the staff were really helpful with suggestions and patient and friendly. This is somewhere if was local to me I would visit often.”
