About The Gallery

The Gallery is a cocktail bar at 4-6 Wherry Quay in Ipswich, just off the waterfront, in a listed building it has occupied since opening in June 2021. Exposed timber beams run through the room. Cocktails are the focus, covering traditional recipes and mocktails, with the Peachy Blinder, Moscow Mule and Long Island Iced Tea among the named drinks. Wine and craft beer sit alongside them for anyone who wants something different. Guests can choose an LP and the bar plays it on a proper record deck, so the music comes from the people at the tables. A chess board sits on the table for anyone who wants a game, and bar snacks arrive in a bowl. Walk-ins are taken without a reservation.

Good to know

“Opened in June 2021, The Gallery is a new wine and cocktail bar situated close to the Ipswich Waterfront. Taking up residence in one of the town’s listed buildings, you’ll find magnificent exposed timber beams throughout; this, coupled with low lighting, table service, and an excellent choice of drinks, make it the perfect venue to enjoy on a night out. Staying true to its name, you might also find many paintings on the walls by local artists. The perfect venue to enjoy pre-dinner, post-dinner drinks or just getting together with friends and family. Our menus have been carefully crafted, so whether you’re a wine enthusiast, cocktail lover, spirit drinker or love craft beer, you’re sure to find a drink that suits your tastes.”

Customer Review Summary

Cocktails are what reviewers return to The Gallery for, with traditional ones singled out as fresh, strong and full on. The Peachy Blinder and Moscow Mule are named favourites, and the Long Island Iced Tea gets a nod too, along with a couple of mocktails. Close behind is the staff, described repeatedly as friendly and efficient, with one reviewer saying the advice offered to a nervous cocktail drinker was spot on. Also mentioned are a wine selection one reviewer calls out of this world, Hawkstone cider, and bar snacks. Some point to the character of the room, including records played on a proper deck where guests choose an LP, and a chess board on the table. The one caveat comes from a regular who found the atmosphere less chilled out than on earlier visits, though the service and cocktails still held up. Several mention reasonable prices, and one reviewer notes a two-for-one deal on the same cocktail before 8pm.

“Lovely place just off the waterfront. Staff were really lovely, friendly and efficient. We had a range of cocktails (including a couple of mocktails). Went early evening on Friday, so the alcoholic cocktails were a very reasonable £8 each. Our favourites were the Peachy Blinder and Moscow Mule (the Long Island Iced Tea was also very nice). Highly recommend!”

“The Wife and I stayed at the salthouse and were looking for a bar (not pub) on the way to the regent and this place did not disappoint.. We rarely get to do something like pop into a bar, unplanned. It wasn't a busy time and the two staff were helpful, inviting and friendly. Cocktails aren't normally my thing because I don't want to get it wrong, advice was spot on and we both enjoyed ours with a bowl of bar snacks. Next time we'll spare time for two cocktails.”

“The best cocktail place in Ipswich. We are lovers of traditional, and good god can they do traditional cocktails at The Gallery! They are fresh and strong and full on. Just like a good cocktail should be. Service is friendly and professional, and there isn’t much they can’t make. Have been coming here for a while and will carry on coming. Keep mixing guys and will keep drinking!”

“We only stayed for a couple of cocktails in the Gallery, on previous visits it’s been a very chilled out atmosphere but unfortunately this wasn’t the case this time however the service & cocktails were of a very high standard.”
