Quick info
About Mcleod's Fish & Chips
Mcleod's Fish & Chips is a fish and chip shop in Inverness, on Grant St at number 29, run strictly as a takeaway with no seating inside. A catch of the day board names the boat that landed each fish, which shows customers where their meal came from. The haddock and chips uses Peterhead haddock. Everything is cooked to order, so a short wait is normal, and the tartare sauce is homemade. Battered sausages are sold in pairs or foot-long. Food goes out in paper boxes. The shop opens in the evenings from Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays. An allergen sheet is kept next to the till.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the haddock, described as fresh, flaky and chunky, with a batter that is crispy and not too thick. Close behind are the homemade tartare sauce and the generous portions, with one reviewer calling the fish huge. Tatty fritters, cheese patties and battered sausages that are not greasy get praise from one visitor, and another rates the gravy. Several mention a board or screen showing which boat caught the fish, and the staff come across as friendly and quick, with everything cooked to order. Chips draw good words, though one reviewer rates them only about seven out of ten, and the fish gets more enthusiasm than they do. The main trade-off is that there is no seating inside, so it is strictly takeaway, and reviewers say the staff suggest nearby places to eat. One notes the sausages are sold in pairs unless ordering the foot-long. Reviewers also mention a short wait while orders are fried fresh, and an allergen sheet sits by the till.

“Amazing fish. Chips were also good, but the fish... To die for! Made to order, just the right amount of batter, fried just right. Value for money is great, you get a huge fish for £10.80. My picture didn't turn out so good but believe me it looked and tasted amazing in real life.”

“Our group recently visited Scotland (from Tennessee) and we got the pleasure of eating fish and chips from McLeod's. The food was absolutely delicious. We loved the homemade tartar sauce too. The portions were huge and we stuffed ourselves! If I ever go back to Scotland, I know where to find the best fish and chips!”

“We discovered this place when visiting Inverness and cannot recommend it enough. The staff were very friendly and the food was freshly cooked. Definitely the best fish and chips I have had for many years. The fish was well cooked and the batter just right - not too thick. The chips were perfect. If you are nearby I can thoroughly recommend.”
