  “Found this location while passing through after being treated to the traditional smell of fish and chips in the air. As it was raining sitting inside made more sense. The chef in the takeaway side was kind enough to point out that the cafe next door was all part of the same establishment. So we ventured into the cafe on the other side and were seated quickly by a server who seemed streched thin compared to the number of dinners present. Needing to obviously work at a pace, his communication was direct. Our intention was always to have a light lunch as smaller fish was avaible to purchase next door but after browsing the menu for a couple of minutes and seeing the size of the portions being delivered to the tables it was obvious that this was too much food for each of us. I enquired about the possibility of a smaller portion or maybe an alternative menu. The flat response we were given was "We don't mess around with stuff like that here" and "if you want a small fish then you can go next door and buy one". So we left. Not recommended.”

  “The men behind the counter were lovely to chat with during the wait, and the fish texture and batter was perfect, but lacked a bit of seasoning - the offered malt vinegar and salt, which was a pleasant addition. Overall, great experience at a classic fish and chip shop.”

  “Best fish and chips we have had outside of Whitby. Stopped for lunch after visiting the castle. The haddock was cooked fresh, the batter was light and crispy and the chips lovely and fluffy inside and the service was friendly. We sat outside to people watch while we ate. If we ever come on holiday again to this area we will definitely be going back.”
