About Sonali Spice
Sonali Spice is an Indian restaurant at 8 New Rd in Hornsea. The menu includes balti dishes, with chicken balti among them. Meals can start with poppadoms and pickles, and the naan comes from the tandoor, including a stuffed Peshwari naan. Vegetarian and vegan dishes sit alongside the meat dishes, so a mixed group can order from one menu. The team recommends dishes to guests who are unsure what to choose. A wait is common at busy times.

Customer Review Summary
Baltis draw the most praise, with one family calling the chicken balti always delicious and another diner saying they have never had a bad dish while trying different ones. Close behind are a vindaloo reviewers say has the right heat, a dal, saag lamb and naan fresh from the tandoor, plus a garlic mushroom starter and crisp poppadoms with tasty pickles. A vegetarian found plenty of choice, including veg biryani and bhindi. Staff are described as friendly, funny and helpful with dish recommendations. The caveats are specific. One collection order brought a bland balti and a chicken tikka masala like watery soup with chicken that looked pre-sliced, and most of it was left. Another reviewer notes smaller portions with only a few pieces of meat when special offers run, and poppadoms short of the menu count until they asked. One found the wait long on a busy session and wanted more stuffing in the peshwari naan. That same takeaway customer had the order checked before leaving.

“Ordered food for collection. Service was fine, both on the phone and when I collected. The food on the other hand was not. Myself and my husband had a different curry each, he said his was bland, and not what a usual balti looked like, he did manage to eat it, although said it was just okay. Mine, a chicken tikka massala was like a watery soup, the chicken looked like pre sliced chargrilled chicken. It was not good, in fact I left most of it. To say we were disappointed is an understatement.”

“We had a mixture of meals, they were all delicious. The garlic mushroom appetiser was the best I've ever tasted, the poppadoms were really crisp and the pickles accompanying them were really tasty. Will definitely be returning for more.”

“My friend and I were over in Hornsea for the day when we got chatting to someone, who then recommended Sonali Spice for a good place to eat. We were not disappointed, the food was absolutely delicious, with top notch service. If ever we're in Hornsea again, Sonali Spice will be at the top of the list of places to eat, I would highly recommend coming here to anyone.”
