Quick info
About Sheesh Mahal
Sheesh Mahal is a family-run Indian restaurant on Marina in Hartlepool. Its Indian Tapas Menu puts a starter, rice, naan and two main dishes together as one set meal, a format that works for groups. The kitchen is open plan, so diners can see the whole kitchen and watch food being cooked. The dining room is a large space filled with tables and brightly lit. The team will adapt dishes on request and offer recommendations. Chicken chatt is one of the starters, and okra is also on the menu.

Customer Review Summary
The Indian tapas menu is what most reviewers single out, a set meal of a starter, rice, naan and two main dishes that several call filling and excellent value. A group of six all chose it, and a party of 23 got through it with no mistakes. Diners also praise the chicken chatt starter and okra described as beautiful, with food that feels homemade and spicing that is delicate and subtle rather than all heat. Staff are called friendly and willing to adapt dishes. The criticisms centre on the room and service. One found the large, brightly lit room full of tables left zero atmosphere, though others like the open plan layout. Another dropped a rating after miserable looking staff, nobody asking how the meal was, and a reception lady who seemed not bothered. Regulars like watching their food being cooked in the open kitchen.

“Very nice flavours in the food, alot of times many dishes taste simular but here its a different experience. Im now changing my review from 5 stars to 3 (16/06/2026) because service was really mediocre, miserable looking staff faces nobody even asked if how my meal was. The main lady at reception who looks like she is the owner didnt seem really bothered. Shame. I will try other places as there is lots of competition.”

“We had an amazing experience at the Sheesh Mahal for my birthday yesterday. They managed a party of 23 people, all our food was great - no issues. We all went for the tapas option, which meant various dishes so I was really impressed there was no mistakes. Service also great. Couldn’t fault them. Would definitely recommend.”

“Always good atmosphere and friendly staff , always willing to adapt or change dishes required and give an opinion when asked for recommendations , this has to be our favourite Indian place to eat out !! Service with a smile every time.”

“We stayed at the Premier Inn on the Marina and our group of 6 people went to the Sheesh Mahal restaurant for our evening meal. The restaurant was busy but I have to say we all went for the £15.95 offer with a starter, 2 main course and Naan breads. Excellent value for money and would definitely recommend.”

“Food is fantastic and well priced. Portions are just right. This eatery is more refined with it's spices that others. It's not all about heat, you can taste the delicate and subtle flavours. Highly recommend, we will be back. And it has the most amazing view, the outside bar will be fantastic in the summer.”
