Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise the friendly, attentive staff, with several describing a lovely family meal, a civil wedding reception and an Easter lunch handled well. Food gets strong marks for flavour and presentation, and one reviewer singles out the braised ox cheek as tender and rich, while others mention grilled halibut, salads and cocktails. A Sunday lunch with live jazz is described as highly entertaining, and one parent says the unsalted parts of the meal suited a toddler, with staff quickly sorting out a dropped babycino. The complaints are about consistency. One diner found a steak so tough the steak knife would not cut it, got a replacement but finished after the rest of the party, and noted that no waiter checked on the table. Another reviewer found the muffins under scrambled eggs rock solid and had to get up to ask for service. A third describes a front desk that did not look up, a requested window table not honoured and drink and food orders taking about 10 minutes each, though the cocktails and salads were still praised. One birthday celebration went unacknowledged, and the second round of cocktails arrived as the meal was nearly finished.

“My Mum and I visited the Coppa Club Guildford Townhouse for a joint birthday celebration. While the culinary side of the experience was fantastic, the customer service left a lot to be desired right from the start. The Service & Arrival When we arrived, the gentleman at the front desk didn’t even bother to look up to acknowledge us, which felt extremely rude. After giving him our reservation details, he simply pointed to his left and told us to sit at any table there. None of those tables were near the window (which I had requested in our booking), so I asked if we could sit at an empty window table on the raised section to his right. He said that was fine, but instead of showing us to the table, he just handed us the menus and went straight back to his screen. It took about 10 minutes for someone to take our drinks order, and another 10 minutes after that before the front desk gentleman finally came over to take our food order. When booking, I had explicitly mentioned it was a joint birthday celebration, but this wasn't acknowledged at all during our visit. Most restaurants these days make a small effort for special occasions, so it was a disappointing letdown. The Food & Drink On a much more positive note, the food and drinks were excellent. Our drinks were a little slow to arrive, but the cocktails were lovely. When our salads arrived, they were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. We did order a second round of cocktails to enjoy with our meal, but unfortunately, they arrived just as we were nearly finished eating. Atmosphere & Value The restaurant was relatively quiet with diners dotted around, which created a lovely, relaxed atmosphere where we could actually hear each other talk. The total came to just over £100 for four cocktails and two salads (including the service charge). While it did feel a little expensive for what we had, the quality of the food and drink mostly justified it. Verdict The Coppa Club has great potential because the kitchen and bar team are clearly doing a wonderful job. However, the front-of-house team really needs to up their customer service skills and pay attention to special guest requests.”

“I paid £25.50 for a steak which was so tough the steak knife would not cut it. I complained and the waitress asked if I would like another one or the cost taken off the bill. I asked for another one which was ok however it meant I had to eat my meal after the rest of my party had finished. I received an apology but I would have thought a small gesture such as a free sweet dish or cocktail would have gone some way to regain my confidence. No waiter visited the table during our meal to ask if everything was ok.”

“We had a civil wedding reception on Wed 3 June. We were looked after superbly by Iza. The party was for 11. She worked single handedly and was totally accommodating and interacted with everyone. Service was faultless!! A very valuable member of your staff, could not have asked for more. Thank you again Iza.”

“Absolutely loved our experience at Coppa Club Guildford! The food was genuinely delicious, everything was beautifully presented and full of flavour. What really made the evening special though was the incredible staff — so friendly, welcoming and genuinely attentive from start to finish. A special mention to Iza, who was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond to make us feel looked after. You can tell the whole team really cares about creating a great atmosphere. Such a lovely place for a meal, drinks, or a special occasion. Can’t wait to come back!”
