About Spice Of Life

Spice Of Life is an Indian restaurant in Grimsby, set at 8-12 Wellowgate. Ordering here is guided by the chef and the staff, who steer diners toward dishes like the lamb handi. Customer Review Summary

Lamb dishes anchor the praise, with one diner calling the lamb handi among the best Desi dishes they have eaten and another describing the lamb biryani as lovely. Close behind are a chicken 65 starter, a tandoori mix grill, and a chef's recommended dish where the diner chose the meat and the kitchen tailored the spice to taste. A local fish curry and a buffet visit also drew approval. Reviewers describe generous portions, food arriving piping hot, and friendly, attentive staff in a cosy room. The recurring complaint concerns delivery orders. Two reviewers say food arrived hours later than promised, one after phone calls went unanswered or were cut off, the other after two mains were left out and had to be sent separately. One adds that what arrived was cold, the chips tasted stale, and most of it was thrown away. Both delivery complaints end on the same detail: the poppadoms arrived crushed in one order and missing entirely from the other, despite a request for extra care.

“After many years as a loyal customer, I can honestly say this was the worst experience I have ever had with Spice of Life through Just Eat. We ordered on the understanding that delivery would be within an hour. Instead, the food arrived more than two hours later. During that time, our calls were repeatedly ignored, and when we did manage to get through, we were hung up on. It genuinely felt as though our number was being screened to avoid having to speak to us or explain the delay. To make matters worse, when the order finally arrived, parts of it were missing. We specifically asked for extra care to be taken with the poppadoms because they have arrived broken in the past. Instead, the poppadoms were missing entirely, along with other items from our order. The quality of the food was equally disappointing. Everything arrived cold, the chips tasted stale, and several items tasted as though they had been sitting around for a long time before being reheated and sent out. After waiting more than two hours, receiving cold food is completely unacceptable. What made the situation even more frustrating was that I needed to take medication with my meal. Because of the excessive delay, I was forced to take that medication much later than planned, which left me feeling extremely uncomfortable. A restaurant may not think a delivery delay is a big issue, but for some customers, timely delivery genuinely matters. The most disappointing part is that this isn't coming from a first-time customer. I've been ordering from Spice of Life for years and have spent a significant amount of money with this business over that time. Loyalty clearly counts for very little. On a personal note, it is genuinely disappointing when a business treats long-standing customers with such disregard. We have noticed a steady decline in both service and reliability over our last few orders, but we continued to support our local Indian takeaway out of loyalty. Unfortunately, this experience has shown that loyalty is not reciprocated. Poor communication, ignored calls, missing items, cold food, stale chips, and a delivery time that exceeded the promised estimate by well over an hour. This was a complete failure from start to finish. Sadly, most of the food ended up in the bin. A formal complaint has been raised with Just Eat, and we are seeking a full refund. You work hard, look forward to your favourite takeaway, and expect the service you have paid for. Instead, our evening was ruined by poor communication, unacceptable delays, and food that was not fit to be enjoyed. After years of custom, this is how Spice of Life has chosen to treat loyal customers. I won't be ordering again, and after this experience, I would strongly encourage others to think carefully before trusting them with their order.”

“Genuinely one of the best Desi dishes I have ever eaten. Shaun was the one to recommend the Lamb handi and I can not be more grateful not only for his recommendation but also for his hospitality and service. It was really a enjoyment of the flavours in this dish. Dhonnobad Highly recommended!!”

“Spice of Life is an incredibly wellorganized restaurant that delivers an exceptional dining experience every single time. The owner does a fantastic job running the place, and a special shoutout must go to Ali at the front of house. He is always such a joy to speak with, bringing a wonderful, welcoming energy to the room. It means so much that he takes the time to know my family and me by our names it truly makes us feel valued, As for the food, it is always absolutely delicious, perfectly portioned, and consistently high quality. We are so lucky to have a restaurant in the heart of Grimsby that serves such authentic Indian flavors. If you haven't been yet, I cannot recommend it enough. A must-visit!”
