About Toby Carvery Captain Manby

Toby Carvery Captain Manby is a carvery in Great Yarmouth, on Beaufort Wy, where an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet runs alongside the carvery for anyone who wants a morning meal. At the carving station, staff carve turkey and lamb to order, and the plate comes with Yorkshire puddings. A starter and desserts are available alongside the carvery, so a visit can run to more than one course. Coffee can be made with oat milk. The site has a restaurant area and a separate bar area, and a server provides table service. Tables can be booked. The carvery is open daily.

Customer Review Summary

Attentive table service draws the most praise, with several diners describing servers who checked back regularly and stayed friendly through very busy evenings. Turkey and roast potatoes are the carvery items named most, alongside well cooked meat, desserts, and hot coffee with oat milk. Yorkshire puddings are the recurring weak spot: one reviewer found them frozen, another flat with one undercooked in the middle, and the cauliflower cheese was called not cheesy. A breakfast reviewer disliked shared bowls of sauces and jam, and another noted shouting children and crying babies. Two harsher accounts describe rude staff, filthy glasses, cutlery with old food on it, over-reduced gravy, dry food, unready veg, and lamb and turkey carved down to the bone. One of those parties was seated in a hot bar area with no air con despite booking, and watched a high chair get taken away after it was cleaned in front of the family.

“We had a great experience here. The food was tasty and quick to come out. We opted for a starter and a carvery. Our server Bruce, was bright, cheery and he went above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely time and that everything was ok with our meal. He seemed genuinely happy to be there, which made us happy to eat there. Will definitely recommend and be back again when we are next in the area.”

“First time visiting whilst we were on holiday in the area. We arrived before the rush but still had to queue for around 15 minutes for the carvery. The carvery itself was nice, the meat was well cooked and the roast potatoes were lovely. The only let downs were the frozen Yorkshire puddings and the cauliflower cheese wasn't cheesy at all. We had desserts which were lovely. Shout out to our wonderful server Bruce - we've met him before when he worked at another restaurant and were glad to see him again. His service is 5 star and he is a credit to the restaurant and company.”

“We had a wonderful experience, the food was amazing as was the service especially thanks to Claire, who went above and beyond to make our evening as enjoyable as possible. Despite it being an incredibly busy evening service, her attentiveness, and genuine care for us and other guests never wavered. She made us feel incredibly well looked after and truly went the extra mile to ensure everything was perfect. A huge 5 stars for Claire - she is an absolute credit to the team!!”

“First time we've had a carvery here. Fantastic value for money, wonderfully cooked food. Great service. My only negative point (which I completely understand is out of their hands) there were lots of kids shouting & babies crying, so this was a bit annoying whilst enjoying our dinner. Appreciate this is life! Great food. Thanks.”

“The food was dry half the veg wasn't ready. The meat was down to the bone on the lamb and turkey, had to ask for fresh lamb. The chief was grumpy. The service was terrible. The bar tender was rude threw a milk jug on the shelf as my sister asked for a little bit of milk for my 80 year old dad it was his birthday surprise lunch with the family. We booked a table to sit in the restaurant but we're told to sit in the bar area. It's was so hot in there no air con everyone was struggling. The lady who took us to our table was very rude. I had booked by email confirming 10 people and a high chair the lady who took us to the table took the high chair away after cleaning it in front of us we had Togo and get another high chair. I will say the only person who was nice was the waiter looking after us all. To say we won't be using manbys again. We've used manbys alot this is definitely the last time we will use this place. We spent over £80 on food and drinks for three people the staff definitely need to learn how to be courteous to customers. Manners dnt cost a thing. The customer/customers should always be treated with respect and manners.”
