About Golden Dishes Lounge & Restaurant (Flavours for Royalty)

Nigerian and West African cooking anchors the menu at Golden Dishes Lounge & Restaurant (Flavours for Royalty), an African restaurant on Skinner Street in Gillingham. A seafood boil arrives with its sauce served on the side, and suya, including chicken suya, is often ordered with jollof rice. Rice comes several ways, with fried rice and turkey and a half and half plate among the options, while catfish, plantain and meat pies fill out the rest of the kitchen's range. Puff puff is a repeat order for many. A selection of African drinks runs alongside the food. The dining room seats guests indoors for sit-down meals, and families and birthday groups use the space. It opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

Puff puff is the item reviewers name most, described as soft, sweet and the best some have had, with one calling it a must try. Close behind is the chicken suya, singled out as smoky and well spiced and ordered alongside jollof, fried rice with turkey or the half and half rice, while two diners describe the seafood boil as fresh, generous and served with a side sauce one rates among the best they have had. Several also mention the catfish, free yum yums, warm welcomes and a clean, decorated room they call calm and beautiful. One reviewer's account runs sharply against this: they describe puff puff arriving short of the stated count and tasting like raw dough, meat pies that were mostly pastry with little filling, plantain not diced as requested, and a remark questioning whether their wife looked Nigerian, and they dispute the restaurant's public reply as inaccurate. A seafood boil diner offers the one other suggestion, serving it in a bag so it keeps its heat.

“The best puff puff I’ve ever had! We also ordered the suya with jollof rice and fried rice with turkey - everything was delicious and tasted so fresh. The lady was super friendly and charming 😊 The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and very clean. It’s definitely the best Nigerian restaurant in town!”

“Had the seafood boil, food was lovely and fresh and the sauce we had on the side was one of the best sauces I’ve ever had!! Only thing I would say is would be better served in a bag like other seafood boils as it got cold very quickly served how it was. It looked amazing like this but I’d rather the food kept its heat as it takes a while to get through it. Other than that can’t fault it. And the amount of food you get is defiantly good value, we also got free yum yums and my little one and myself and Mrs loved it will be back soon!! 👌”

“We recently visited Golden Dishes Authentic African Restaurant and honestly, it was such a beautiful experience from start to finish. The welcome was incredibly warm—you can tell straight away that they genuinely care about their customers and want you to feel at home. The food? Absolutely outstanding. Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and prepared with real love and care. We tried puff puff, chicken suya, catfish, and the half & half rice, and every single dish was packed with flavour. The chicken suya was perfectly spiced and smoky, the catfish rich and satisfying, and the puff puff was soft, sweet, and just right. You can really taste the authenticity in every bite. They also have a great selection of authentic drinks, which added something special to the whole experience. The service was just as impressive—friendly, attentive, and genuinely lovely. It didn’t feel rushed or impersonal at all, more like being welcomed into someone’s home for a great meal. If you’re looking for fresh, delicious, authentic African food in a place that feels warm and inviting, this is definitely the spot. I’ll absolutely be coming back. Thank you 🤗❤️”
