About Britannia fish bar
Britannia fish bar is a fish and chips shop in Gillingham, at 117 Watling St, where the staff serve from behind a counter. Fish comes in large fillets, with a selection of fish types, and each order is cooked to order. Battered sausage and chips gives a non-fish option, and potato wedges can replace the chips. Orders to take home come with the chips wrapped. The shop stands on a main road and can get busy, with a wait at peak times.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the fish, describing crispy batter, fresh fish and massive portions, with several driving past other chip shops to get it. Battered sausage and chips come up close behind, one reviewer calling the sausage batter light and crispy, though it tasted cured to them, and another simply calling it lovely. The potato wedges are also singled out as delicious, and one reviewer says they would go back only for them. Friendly staff behind the counter are mentioned repeatedly, and a few note food cooked to order with a short wait. The complaints centre on consistency. One regular found chips rock hard and soggy, as if left sitting in the warmer, while others describe an overcooked, dry haddock with a bone or two, oily fish, cold overcooked chips, and no lemon. A few call it pricey, and one says parking on the main road is poor. After that bad batch of chips, the counter worker handed over wedges to try instead.

“Lovely battered sausage and chips, big portions too. Very fresh, very clean establishment. Staff friendly. Waiting time was short even though cooked to order. 👍”

“I've been here a few times and ive never been disappointed. The guys behind the counter are also so friendly. But I come back mainly because the food is delicious. The fish always has nice crispy batter, the portions are massive and the chips dont get all mushy and stuck together like some other places do. I would recommend them highly.”

“A good fish n chip shop in the local area. Parking is terrible due to it being on a main road. Can get busy so be prepared to wait a while. Good selection of fish. Food to a good quality a little over priced just like everything these days. Clean venue with polite staff.”

“The service was OK 👍, but could be improved, the atmosphere is pretty standard for a traditional takeaway nothing special, the place decoration you could easily spot that it's done in a hurry and not really a good finish " look closely". The fish choices is pretty standard but when you eat it it's really oily and I have had a loy of fish and chips all over the country this is a bit disappointing in all honesty. The chips is OK but could be a lot better . Unfortunately I don't think I will use it again as there is locally a much better quality fish and chips served by other chippies.”
