About Highland Cinema

Highland Cinema is a two-screen cinema on Cameron Square in Fort William, with premium seating in the screens and a restaurant and bar attached. Pizza comes from an open-kitchen-style oven, including a haggis chicken and peppercorn pizza, so a meal and a film sit under one roof. Chicken tenders are served with chipotle mayo, and cocktails are available from the bar. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and breakfast runs seasonally with a Lochaber Special on the menu. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Pizza is the most frequent draw here, with diners praising the haggis, chicken and peppercorn pizza and one pairing theirs with Scotch bonnet pepper sauce, though another found it good but nothing special. Close behind are the breakfasts, from pancakes with fruit and a latte to the Lochaber Special with bacon and black pudding. Chicken tenders with chipotle mayo, onion rings and a salmon salad also earn praise, and the chocolate torte comes up repeatedly for dessert, along with the cookie dough. Reviewers describe friendly staff, quick service at a Monday brunch, and an open-kitchen pizza oven beside the seating. One visitor with a staffy found the place welcoming to dogs. The main trade-off is demand. One diner was warned of a wait because of a large party, and another says dinner gets very busy and urges booking a table. One reviewer adds that the onion rings often run out and suggests pre-ordering them.

“Highland Cinema – A Little Piece of Magic in Fort William! What an absolute gem the Highland Cinema is! From the moment you step inside, you are transported back to the charm and character of the 1950s. The wonderfully nostalgic interior, complete with hand-drawn signs, gives the building such a personal and authentic feel. Every detail seems thoughtfully considered, and the exceptional cleanliness is yet another delightful bonus. I had made a little promise to myself during my stay in Fort William: If time permitted, I simply had to visit a cinema within walking distance of where I was staying! It might seem like an ordinary pleasure to some, but I had never had the privilege of being able to stroll to my local cinema before. So, naturally, I couldn't resist the opportunity! My first visit was to see Practical Magic 2, and what a lovely experience it turned out to be. Having already enjoyed lunch earlier that day, I wasn't particularly hungry, so my visit was really about enjoying the cinema and the atmosphere. What I hadn't anticipated was the wonderful hospitality that would greet me. The staff were the perfect combination of professionalism, genuine warmth and good old-fashioned charm. Their friendliness was so natural and welcoming that, despite being a visitor, I soon felt like a familiar local returning to a favourite haunt. In fact, I enjoyed the experience so much that I returned on my final evening in Fort William, this time bringing friends along so they could experience a little of the magic for themselves! And what a wonderful decision that was. We arrived rather late, yet the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Not once were we made to feel hurried or inconvenient. Quite the opposite! I was welcomed back with the same warmth and familiarity I had enjoyed during my first visit, and my friends were able to witness first-hand the delightful hospitality I had been telling them about. The food was equally impressive. Everything arrived beautifully presented, wonderfully fresh and absolutely delicious. Everyone in our party commented on the quality of their orders, and it was clear that real care and pride had gone into every dish. My own evening was made even more memorable by a lovely recommendation of Nevis Dew blended whisky, accompanied by a generous helping of Scotch bonnet pepper sauce for my pizza! What a fabulous combination! The warming whisky and fiery pepper sauce were just what I fancied to help shake off the chill of an approaching cold and put a little spring in my step for an early rise and shine the following morning. What struck me most, however, was that the staff hadn't simply provided excellent service. They had created a genuine sense of belonging. By my final evening, I no longer felt like a tourist passing through Fort William. I felt like a local popping into a much-loved neighbourhood establishment, with friends in tow. And that, to me, is the true measure of exceptional hospitality. In a world where genuine customer care can sometimes feel like a disappearing art, the Highland Cinema reminds us how much a warm smile, a little kindness and thoughtful attention can mean. I may never find myself in Fort William again, but I will certainly never forget the wonderful people at the Highland Cinema. Their warmth, generosity of spirit and genuine hospitality truly warmed the cockles of my heart. **Thank you to everyone at the Highland Cinema. You welcomed me as a stranger, remembered me as a familiar face, and made my friends feel just as special.** I came for a film, returned for the hospitality, and left with a memory that will stay with me for years to come. A little piece of Fort William will remain in my heart forever. ❤️”

“Food is good.. large portion. Service is good as well but restroom is open on second floor so it is hard to just wash your hand after eating.”

“What can I say! Those Onion Rings were Fantastic. Wow Wow Wow. I travelled across the world to see what everyone has been talking about and I was not disappointed. The texture, the flavour, the freshness was exquisite and Screamed Scotland in my mouth. While you are there try the Chocolate torte for desert, that was another water shed moment for my taste buds. My goodness, I am now planning my next trip back. Make sure you pre-order as they are so popular that they often run out.”

“Absolutely amazing pizza!!! Our favourite in the whole of Scotland that we’ve found yet. The haggis chicken and peppercorn pizza is so delicious. The cookie dough is also so tasty as well. Very dog friendly too, the staff were all so friendly and helpful to us and our staffy. Highly recommend and one of our favourite spots! We make sure to visit every time we’re in the area. Definitely make sure to book a table though cause it gets very busy especially for dinner.”
