Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips draw the steady stream of praise here, with the haddock singled out repeatedly for its fresh, crispy batter and the fish traceable to the boat that caught it. Close behind, reviewers call out the chips as crisp and fluffy, the mushy peas as thick and generously portioned, and the curry and tartare sauces for their balance, while chips with cheese and gravy and the battered black pudding also get mentions. The staff come up often as polite and friendly, and the setting near Loch Ness adds to the experience for passing tourists. A few note the fish, scampi, and sausage sides as merely average, and portion size is a recurring gripe, with more than one reviewer finding a "large fish and chips" closer to a single small portion for the price. One diner who returned after sampling shops across Scotland and Cornwall still called this the best fish supper of the trip.

Here is where we had the best fish and chips during our trip in Scotland. The fish is caught fresh daily and you know which boat caught it. Not overly greasy not a lot of excess batter just plain delicious. They open up at 12 noon and close …

Fort Augustus sits on the south west tip of Loch Ness in the stunning Scottish Highlands, where all that fresh Highland air soon builds up quite an appetite. There was plenty of parking outside, and on entering, it was easy to see how clean and well-maintained everything was. The staff were very polite and friendly. I ordered the haddock and chips, with the fresh haddock cooked to perfection in a light, tasty, crispy batter. The chips were delicious and plentiful, with a subtly firm texture. The mushy peas were thick, generously portioned and not over-seasoned. The curry sauce had a lovely consistency with a slight kick, while the tartare sauce had just the right mix of capers and gherkins, without being overpowered by mayonnaise. The battered black pudding and red pudding were both tasty, again coated in that light, crispy batter. Overall, this was a fantastic stop in a beautiful part of Scotland, serving fresh chip shop fare with friendly service. A very enjoyable visit, and one well worth making if you find yourself near Loch Ness. 🟠 Cooking in: Oil 🟠 Payment: Cash or Card 🟠 Fish Reviewed: Haddock 🎥 See the full video review on The Chippy Tour YouTube channel

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
