Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips is the dish reviewers raise most, and opinions split. Some describe a generously sized portion served piping hot with the fish cooked perfectly throughout, and one calls the tartare sauce outstanding. Another found the fish really greasy, the chips frozen-style rather than properly cut, and the takeaway bill a shock, adding that the staff never smiled. Close behind, a smash burger and a falafel kebab are called delicious, a first Cullen Skink is called incredible, and a pizza with a crisp base is praised. One reviewer also enjoyed a breakfast of black pudding, poached egg and fresh bread. Value is the recurring complaint. One reviewer thought the wee breakfast pricey, with half slices of pudding and a small dish of beans, and noted that the menus advertised on the website differ from those in use. Several describe friendly, welcoming staff and window seats with a view over the river Findhorn, while another mentions a snug spot by the log burner. Dogs are welcomed inside, and one reviewer notes that water bowls were provided.

“Stopped by while staying at the Findhorn aire, popped in for a quick lunch, not expecting much, but my was I in for a surprise! Best pizza North of Italy, perfectly crisp base, just the right amount of toppings and just the right size. I was so impressed, I had to try their breakfast the next morning and it was equally delectable. Delicious black pudding, perfectly poached egg and fresh bread. Ten out of ten, will be back soon!”

“Never had a Cullen Skink before, and decided to try it here. Incredible! Also full of locals so you can tell it’s a nice place. Great views too.”

“We had a lovely visit to The Captain’s Table. The food was great — I had the smash burger, which was absolutely delicious, and my partner had the falafel kebab, which they really enjoyed too. We also had our dog Molly with us, and it was brilliant that she was welcome inside. They even provided water bowls for the dogs, which was a really nice touch and made us feel very welcome. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout, and the view was absolutely lovely as well. Great food, great atmosphere and a fantastic location.”

“A generously sized portion of fish and chips, served piping hot, with the fish cooked perfectly throughout. Perfect view from the window counter top seating, fabulous 👌”

“I found this place quite pricey. £15 for the "wee breakfast" not including your hot drink. I was over £20 for this, a latte and an apple juice 🫣 the half slices of puddings made me giggle. I will add i didnt picture the small dish of beans. The food however was lovely. Just not value for money in my opinion. The menus they advertise on their website are also completely different to what they are running.”
