About Rocksalt Restaurant
Rocksalt Restaurant is a British seafood restaurant at 4-5 Fish Market in Folkestone, with a bar upstairs and a restaurant that looks out over the sea and harbour. The menu centres on seafood, including chilli & garlic shell-on prawns served with a kimchi mayo dipping sauce, a Rye Bay crab starter with diced Granny Smith apple, and a lobster dish. A cocktail list runs alongside the food, so the bar works for drinks as well as dinner. The team accommodates food allergies and intolerances. Reservations are required, and dogs are welcome.

“We visited Rocksalt Restaurant Folkestone for a quick coffee and refreshments after a wonderful day, Unfortunately the waiter and waitress did not attend to us whilst we stood there waiting to be seated. I had to go and ask the waitress where we should seat. The waiter whispered to the waitress about us and straight away told us that they have stopped serving food. Understandably, we said would just like to have some coffee. There were other guests who walked in and were given menus but we were not even seen to. Again there was whispering going on. I asked to see the Manager but the waitress said he’s not available. I had read about the restaurant in the Telegraph and suggested to visit Folkestone. We were thoroughly disappointed on the behaviour of the staff towards us. I trust and hope that the Management reads this review and train their staff appropriately. Most disappointed.”

“Had the most amazing meal yesterday lunch time at Rock Salt. The Lobster was incredible and the service was fantastic. Would highly recommend. Meg who served us made ours kids experience so enjoyable, she even showed her around the restaurant, which allowed us to enjoy our boozy meal!”

“So, if you want to ruin your mood first thing in the morning, this is the perfect place to visit — especially if you enjoy being spoken to rudely by the waiting staff while paying for the privilege. Definitely not the kind of hospitality I expected with my breakfast. I am extremely disappointed with the way I was treated at this restaurant today. I had visited this place ones before in the evenings and had a very positive experience. The bartenders upstairs were friendly, welcoming and professional, which is exactly why I chose to return for breakfast on the final day of my stay. Unfortunately, this morning completely changed my opinion of the place. I asked if I could sit outside and was told that it had rained and the furniture was wet. I checked for myself and was perfectly happy to sit there. As the wooden seat was still slightly damp, I simply reached for a cushion so that I wouldn’t get my clothes wet. At that point, a female member of staff spoke to me in an unnecessarily aggressive, raised and disrespectful manner, telling me to go outside and that she would bring everything to me. There was absolutely no reason to speak to a paying customer in that tone more correctly shouting to customers. What I found most insulting was her saying, “This is a restaurant. You have to ask me for everything.” I could not believe she spoke to me as though I had never been in a restaurant before. I visit good restaurants regularly and know how to treat staff—with politeness and respect. I expect the same courtesy in return. Whatever mood she was in, it did not justify taking her frustration out on a customer, especially one who had been polite from the start. When I challenged her attitude and asked for her name because I wanted to speak to the manager, she told me her name was Kat. I later asked another member of staff and was told that her name was actually Stella. If that information was correct, I find it particularly concerning that a member of staff would apparently give a customer a false name after behaving badly. This left me with the very strong impression that she knew she had crossed the line with the way she had spoken to me and did not want me to know her real name. I did speak to the manager and sincerely hope this incident is taken seriously. People come to a restaurant to relax, enjoy their food and be treated with basic courtesy — not to be shouted at or made to feel unwelcome. I came for a peaceful breakfast overlooking the sea on my last day, and instead left feeling upset and extremely disappointed. Good food and a beautiful location are not enough. Customer service matters, and no guest should be spoken to in this way. Sadly, after today’s experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant.”

“Wonderful fish restuarant overlooking harbour. Taste and texture perfect.”

“Nothing to complain about. But.. Excellent staff and stellar, well priced cocktails. The view is lovely... But.. The food was underwhelming, nothing wrong, just nothing sang out - nobody in the group had a "oh my god, you've got to try this!" moment which then made it feel a tad expensive for what it was. So it's a good 3 stars review rather than a great 4 stars.”
