About Chandos Deli
Chandos Deli is a deli in Exeter city centre, at 1 Roman Walk just down the side of HMV. The focus is toasted sourdough sandwiches and toasties, and the menu runs to 15 dishes. The halloumi and beetroot humous option gives vegetarians a filling choice, while the Pulled Chicken Sandwich covers the meat side. Quiche and cannoli sit alongside the sandwiches for something lighter or sweeter. Coffee is on the menu too, including cappuccino and flat white, so a sandwich can come with a hot drink. Iced chai is available with oat milk.

Customer Review Summary
Sandwiches are the clear draw at this Exeter deli, with reviewers praising fresh toasted sourdough toasties and a wide range of fillings. One pair of diners call the pulled chicken sandwich probably the best they have had, and others name a halloumi and beetroot houmous sandwich and the quiche as delicious and fresh. Coffee comes close behind, with one reviewer rating the flat white among the best in central Exeter and another praising the iced chai with oat milk. Staff are mostly described as friendly and helpful, and several value it as an independent shop. The complaints are scattered but specific. One diner found a toasted chicken sandwich lunch with crisps and a hazelnut coffee too pricey to repeat, and another felt staff were not the most welcoming and tables needed a clean during a busy spell. One visitor with a small dog was told only after nearly finishing a coffee and cannoli that dogs were not allowed inside, and saw no clear sign saying so.

“Absolutely love Chandos Coffee Shop! ☕️🥪 The sandwiches are honestly the best — fresh, delicious and always made with so much care. The team are fantastic and create such a relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable and looked after. Brilliant food, lovely people and a great atmosphere — definitely one of my favourite places to visit! ❤️ (Special thanks to Mike who’s a credit to the team.)”

“Chandos is one of the nicest independent coffee and sandwich shops in Exeter. We had the halloumi and beetroot humous sandwich, while my wife had the quiche. It was divine and tasted so fresh. The coffee is a nice blend which we had in a cappuccino and beats any Hugh street coffee. While fad coffee shops are popping up, I recommend independent coffee shops, they care about the what they serve you and make sure you get the best.”

“What a find! Their sandwiches were huge and excellent quality! We both ended up going for the Pulled Chicken sandwich and it was probably, the best sandwich either of us had have! Staff were friendly too, and the place itself was rather nice. Plenty of nearby parking as well.”

“Have been meaning to try Chandos Deli for a while, so.popped in early yesterday for coffee and a cannoli. Both were nice and the deli seems to do good food. I had my small dog with me and no one raised an issue whilst I ordered and then wandered around the place to choose a seat. I was nearly finished when a lady came up to me and said that dogs were not allowed inside, but I was welcome to sit outside. I said I was nearly finished anyway and stayed where I was. She hovered for a second and then left me alone. So no issue with the quality of what I bought, my question is, why., in 2026 are small well-behaved dogs not allowed inside? It seems such a backward policy in 2026 when so many places are welcoming dog owners and thereby increasing foot fall. My main gripe is that I couldn't see any clear signs stating dogs not allowed inside and no one said anything whilst I was ordering and looking around inside. I won't be returning, with or without said pooch.”

“We’ve been here a few times already, and today we desperately needed a coffee. One of the best flat whites in the centre of Exeter. If you are in the area, pay them a visit.”
