Quick info
About Hub Box Exeter
On Catherine St in Exeter, Hub Box Exeter is a Cornwall-born bar and grill with live music some evenings. The menu is built around smash burgers, which come as two smash patties or one thicker patty. The smashed patty bacon cheeseburger sits alongside a simple cheeseburger and more exotic choices. The Vegan BM chick burger covers the plant-based side of the menu, and gluten free options are listed too. Cheesy fries come as a side to the burgers. Dogs are welcome, so diners can bring them along. Walk-ins are seated without a booking, and a lunch deal is available.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the burgers, with the smashed patty bacon cheeseburger singled out for crispy edges and loads of flavour, and the choice between two smash patties or one thicker patty praised. Close behind are the skinny fries, the cheesy fries and the oreo milkshakes, while the chat soy burger, the Kim Yum and the vegan BM chick burger each get a mention. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming, and one blind diner says a server walked them to their table and talked through the menu. Several say they were seated without a booking, and one mentions live music some evenings. The main complaint concerns the sides: two reviewers call the onion rings too oily, and one adds that the fries weren't good either. One finds the food on the pricier side, though another calls the prices really good for the quality. A birthday lunch where the food came out fast is one of the moments diners recall.

“Popped in for lunch before a hospital appointment. Had no booking and was seated straight away. As a blind person I needed just a little extra help but my server who I belive was called Danny according to my receipt helped me to my table and gave recommendations on the menu which helped massively. The food was phenomenal. The chat soy burger is the perfect Asian fusion and works so well. Far better than the five guys I was weighing up having instead. The food is on the pricier end of the spectrum but the service is fantastic and the taste and quality of the food justifies the price. Great atmosphere with subtle and not overpowering music. If your looking for lunch or even to celebrate something special this place has you covered and would 100% recommend. The food was too good not to try before taking the photo 😂”

“Would definitely recommend the cheesy fries. The Vegan BM chick burger is my go to since I am a vegetarian. Improvements: the burger could be served with more sauce inside. The onion rings were WAY TOO oily.”

“We’ve been to Hub Box Exeter several times and it never disappoints. The burgers are consistently excellent, packed with flavour and clearly made with quality ingredients. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff are always friendly, helpful and genuinely seem happy to be there. One thing we really appreciate is that we’ve always been able to walk in and get a table without any hassle, making it a great choice when you fancy a spontaneous meal out. Great food, great service and a place we keep coming back to. Highly recommended for burger lovers in Exeter.”
