About Kings Palace
Ordering happens at the downstairs counter at Kings Palace, a Chinese restaurant at 131 High St in Dunbar, with dine-in tables on the floor above for anyone who would rather eat in. The kitchen works through a familiar range, with black bean dishes such as chicken with black bean and beef with green pepper and black bean sauce, and a salt and pepper line that takes in squid alongside salt and chilli chicken with chips. Salt and Pepper Chicken sits among the options too. Fried rice and noodles come as the usual accompaniments, ordered shared or in separate portions, and curry sauce is served on the side with rice dishes. Ribs turn up both as a starter and inside the munchie box, and some dishes are prepared spicy. The restaurant opens daily in the evenings only, and food is typically ready a short time after an order is placed at the desk.

Customer Review Summary
The salt and pepper plates draw the most specific praise, with the salt and pepper squid and crispy wonton called out as standouts and the salt and chilli chicken and chips described as fresh, though one diner wanted more heat and fresh chillies in it. Close behind is the speed of the takeaway counter, with several noting orders ready quickly and with a smile, and the chicken and black bean with noodles arriving on time. One dine-in party upstairs praised piping hot soup, ribs and beef Szechuan with nothing sent back. Portions and consistency are the recurring gripe: curry sauce portions are described as having shrunk too small for a dry rice dish, a munchie box was judged average with small ribs, fried rice with vegetables was called nothing special, and one pair were disappointed by a beef with green pepper and black bean that arrived with mushrooms, carrot and onion instead. A reviewer also notes being able to pay only in cash, with no explanation given.

“Always get a nice dinner from here but the curry sauce portions seem to have gotten very small! There’s not enough for a dry rice based dish! Used to get good portions in here too.”

“Had a great weekday early evening meal here - sat upstairs as it seems to predominantly do takeaway food downstairs. All courses were excellent and piping hot (individual Soup/Ribs and shared Beef Szechuan/Egg Fried Rice/Noodles/Prawn Crackers. We ate the lot and nothing went back. Service was excellent and the bill with 2 large beers was £60 including a tip. Couldn’t fault it 👍”

“I can,t fault it for portions of rice and the taste. We had chicken and Blackbean and a portion of noodles as mains to take out. Ready on time with a smile. As good as expected.”

“Very nice chinese in Dunbar! Crispy wonton and salt and pepper squid was soo good. Fried rice with vegetables wasn't special and not the best. This place only took cash with no explanation as to why. Honestly, take as a takeout to sit at the harbour- very cosy date. There is dine in tables...”
