About The Big Taquero

The Big Taquero is a Mexican restaurant at 45-50 Castlegreen St in Dumbarton, run from a converted container beside a skate park on an industrial estate. Tacos form the core of the menu, with beef birria and Korean pork belly among them, and a chorizo tostada sits alongside. Customers order at the hatch and are called to collect, and the staff will talk newcomers through the menu. The kitchen also lists options for allergies and diets. Customer Review Summary

Tacos are the draw, with reviewers repeatedly singling out the beef birria and the Korean pork belly as hard to choose between, and the chipotle pollo also praised for its flavours. Close behind are the chorizo tostada, the beef torta, taquitos and jalapeño hash browns, with tres leches cake mentioned as a finish. Diners describe fresh fillings that are not overstuffed, large portions, and quick service from an ordering hatch at a converted container. One visitor with long experience of Mexico and the southern US calls it a fusion of LA taqueria and Glasgow, with Jarritos and Valentina hot sauce on hand. Several travelled in from elsewhere to eat here. The main drawback is the covered outdoor seating, which one reviewer says gets a bit chilly in winter, so they suggest bringing a coat. Another found the atmosphere quiet when visiting early on a midweek. One reviewer was talked through the menu by the person at the counter and was given a recommendation that proved spot on.

“Seems funny coming from canada to find a fun spot with great mexican food. This place is outside with a large covered eating area. A little hidden gem tucked around the corner from a row of auto repair shops. Great staff quick service family friendly They made part of our 55th wedding anniversary trip memorable”

“We frequently go to Mexico and spend a lot of time in Southwest/South USA. What you have here is certainly a fusion, LA Taqueria meets Glasgow vibe. What it's not is a fajita kit from Aldi/Tesco trying to be Mexican or TexMex. They know what people here will like and seem to do it very well. And, well, if you stumble upon it as an American that's been on the road for 3ish months, you'll be a very happy customer. Complete with Jarritos and Valentina hot sauce, even had a bottle of muy picante. Thank you. 🌮🌮🌮”

“Irrefutably the best tacos in Scotland, maybe even the whole of the UK. Super fresh, made with care (no overstuffed sloppy fillings) perfect pliable tortillas. We had birria, Korean pork belly, taquitos, jalapeño hashes and the tres lèches cake. We will be back. It’s a trek from Glasgow but 100% worth it. My hands smell amazing. 🤩”

“I was recommended this place by a colleague so went and I’m so glad that I did. I went really not knowing what to have and the girl behind the counter talked me through the menu and recommended one to me and she got it spot on. I went really early , midweek as it opened so that’s why I marked atmosphere down but could imagine it to be fantastic on a night or weekend.”
