About PizzaExpress

PizzaExpress is an Italian pizza restaurant on Weymouth Ave in Dorchester, next to Brewery Square, with a large public car park across the road. The kitchen runs pizza and pasta dishes alongside a vegan-friendly selection, and starts with Dough Balls 'PizzaExpress' for the table. Children eating with the family can order the Piccolo set meal, which pairs a starter and a pizza or pasta with a dessert, and the Biscoff sundae is offered separately on the dessert list. Drinks are typically brought to the table before the food itself arrives. The room has a step-free entrance for visitors with mobility needs and high chairs for families with young children, plus outdoor seating for those who want to eat outside. Orders can also be placed for takeaway. It opens daily, and tables can be booked online in advance, with reservations recommended. The kitchen handles dine-in and takeaway orders at the same time.

Customer Review Summary

Pizza turns up repeatedly as the draw, with reviewers naming the Carbonara pizza, the classic American with chilli oil, and a customizable BBQ brisket pizza among the favorites, and the Biscoff Sundae and cheesecake singled out for dessert. Several describe the staff as friendly and attentive, with more than one crediting a manager for helping sort out vouchers and app redemptions and making the visit feel personal. Vegan and kids' options also get a mention, with one reviewer noting a good range for a vegan family member and another using the free kids' meal offer during half term. The recurring complaint is speed under pressure: one visit involved an hour's wait for food, with a child's and one diner's pizzas arriving well before a partner's pasta, and staff reportedly downplaying the delay while blaming a surge in takeaway orders; a nearby family was said to have faced the same issue. Other visits describe drinks and pizzas arriving within minutes, so experiences diverge sharply on timing. One reviewer also flags dirty air-conditioning vents near the ceiling. Several diners mention returning for date nights or after cinema trips nearby.

“After years of having bad experience at different pizza express restaurants over the years we were a bit dubious. Our son really wanted pizza so we have it ago. My god the service was amazing topped off with some astonishing food. Would absolutely recommend”

“Have been here many times and other pizza express around the country, but Dorchester branch never fails. Always an amazing standard. And our waitress Madeline was very helpful”

“Excellent pizza express run by amazing staff who really care about service and customer experience. Couldn’t have been happier with our afternoon here.”

“Such rude customer service. The manager just was rude (to us and staff) and claimed we cannot use our vouchers when ordering food due to it being busy..never heard that before.”

“We usually visit Pizza Express as a treat after the cinema and have always enjoyed our previous experiences, so we were surprised to find the restaurant relatively quiet on a Saturday evening. Unfortunately, despite this, we waited around an hour for our food to arrive. When it eventually did, my son’s pizza and mine were brought out first, while we were left waiting even longer for my partner’s pasta. Having already waited so long, it was disappointing that we were unable to eat together. The staff explained that pasta dishes can sometimes take longer to prepare. However, after an hour’s wait, this did little to address our concerns. What was particularly frustrating was that other members of staff acknowledged there had been a delay but spoke about it as though it had only been a brief wait, rather than the reality of customers waiting around an hour for their meals. We later spoke to a family seated nearby who said they had experienced exactly the same issue and had to eat their food in ten minutes because they were now late for their cinema screening. Staff advised that the kitchen was dealing with a high volume of takeaway orders, which was causing delays. If this is a regular occurrence, perhaps additional kitchen staff are needed at weekends to balance takeaway demand with the experience of diners in the restaurant. Pizza Express has always been our go-to choice before or after a cinema trip, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. Unfortunately, it has made us reconsider returning in future.”
