About The Flowerpot

On King St in Derby, The Flowerpot is a pub with a separate gig room, guest rooms, and a menu running to 93 dishes. Nepalese curry is served on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and is available to take away. The bar pours a selection of ales and beer, alongside traditional pub snacks such as pork pie. Beers on tap include Pentrich X Crich Cryo Monster, Vault City Lumberjack Breakfast and Northern Monk Stacks. The live gig room sits apart from the main pub under a low ceiling, and the two spaces are easy to move between to get served. An outside seating area gives further seating, and a multi storey car park sits next to the venue. It operates on a walk-in basis. Guest rooms are reached up a steep staircase, and there is no hotel car park on site.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers come mainly for live gigs in the separate gig room, with tribute nights for Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne, REM, AC/DC and The Smyths all mentioned. The room is described as not too big, with a low ceiling that gives great atmosphere and sound, and easy to get served. Close behind is the pub itself, called a welcoming, proper pub with a good selection of ales, reasonable beer prices and friendly bar staff who coped on very busy nights, though one reviewer finds the beer choice a bit limited. Others mention pork pie snacks and a Nepalese curry served on some weekdays, plus a good outside seating area. Overnight guests describe a clean, spacious room with a comfy bed and a kitchenette with breakfast bits. Their complaints are steep stairs, no hotel parking despite the booking listing, and a key that failed on the outside door. The bar sorted a missing loo roll straight away. One gig-goer says the band had to stop at 11pm, missing a song and any encore, and found one security member rude while clearing the room. Several mention the secure multi-storey car park right next door.

“A real surprise, we went to the flower pot to see Stripe an REM tribute band in December. The pub was full and a great atmosphere. Beer prices very reasonable and service very good. Multi story car oark next door very convenient. Overall highly recommend.”

“Great welcoming proper pub! Good selection of ales as well. Visited before a boxing match and revisited after. It was so busy after as they had a live band on. Bet it was a great do.”

“Went to see ACDC UK there it was a really good night, very very busy but set up well and the bar staff were all over it. Well organised, right next to a very secure car park which is 1.40 for the night parking, no dodgy smells or rubbish in …”

“Lovely clean spacious room with a nice comfy bed. In the heart of Derby, great location for local amenities. Check in was nice and smooth and they have a great little kitchenette with some breakfast bits for the morning. The only "negatives" , which were minor was I didn't have any loo roll in my bathroom , however the gentleman behind the bar sorted that straight away. And my key didn't work for the outside door. Had to get someone to let me in, which was just annoying more than anything. If you have any mobility issues you'd probably be best avoiding this hotel as the rooms are up some quite steep stairs. There is also no hotel parking despite booking. Com listing it as having it's own car park. Fortunately though there is a pay and display multi story car park just across the road, which is relatively cheap. Overall my night was comfortable and not too noisy. If I needed to stay in Derby again I would choose this hotel.”
