About Railway Inn
On E Main St in Darvel, Railway Inn is a pub open daily with reservations recommended. The menu features the McRailway patty alongside a Sunday roast, with homemade chips and coleslaw served alongside. Table service brings food and drinks to the room, and a children's area with children's art on the walls gives families with young children a spot of their own. The back garden looks out over the hillside, with partial covering over some tables for outdoor dining, and dogs are welcome throughout. A step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and free Wi-Fi is available. A quiz night runs on a regular basis, and the pub also offers takeaway for those eating off site.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers consistently return for the home cooked food at prices repeatedly called reasonable, with the McRailway patty and a small breakfast with link sausage and crispy hash browns singled out, alongside a Sunday roast beef dinner and Valentine's steaks cooked medium rare with a homemade peppercorn sauce. Several mention the mince and potatoes and homemade chips and coleslaw as standouts too. The staff draw repeated praise for being friendly and welcoming, treating diners like valued friends rather than customers, and the outdoor back garden with hillside views gets called out as a highlight. One reviewer notes the service was slow on their visit, though they felt a second server kept them updated and apologized for the delay. Dogs are repeatedly described as made to feel welcome, and one diner recalls returning after visiting the area as a child near Dean Castle.

“We came to The Railway Inn for the first time yesterday and absolutely loved it! Our dog felt just as welcomed as us. Food was phenomenal! Best mince and potatoes ever said my OH. Staff so friendly and inviting. Great value and absolutely delighted that this will be my new local.”

“Ate our Sunday dinner here tonight. 2 lovely roast beef dinners, 2 cheeseburgers, 2 icecreams, 2 soft drinks and a wine and beer £45. Great value for money.”

“Wow wee, what a quaint gem this is. The antique 'sign' on the door was lovely when we came in. Some of the words on it I've not heard for ages. The decoration in the dining room was beautiful, with a designated children's area with activities for them to do. There is children's art on the walls which is a lovely touch. Keith our initial server and our chef for our meal was delightful. The service, although slow was well worth the wait. Toni, our second server was very good at 'keeping us in the loop' and apologising for the delay. The food was very tasty, lovely crispy hash browns, my partner thoroughly enjoyed his small breakfast singing the praises of the link sauage. The McRailway patty was out of this world. They aren't hard to pay either. We'll definitely be back”
