About Caffè Nero
Facing the market hall and square, Caffè Nero is a coffee shop at 8-9 Horse Market in Darlington, with seating that looks out over the passing crowd. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring their pets along. The drinks list includes seasonal drinks and an iced matcha latte with oat milk, and cheesecake is on the food side. The space suits customers who want to sit and read, work or study over a coffee. A queue forms at busy times.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the staff, describing them as friendly, lovely and understanding, with one therapist-free mention of a barista who is good to talk with and a front-of-house team that knows regulars. The drinks follow close behind, with a new iced matcha latte made with oat milk, seasonal drinks and the tea described as good, while the cheesecake is called perfect. Several use the cafe for reading, working or studying, and one likes the view of the market hall and square. The caveats are recurring. Drinks and food are called pricey without a voucher, the tables are packed tightly and the room gets busy and noisy, and a couple say it needs a spring clean, with one describing soiled chairs. One reviewer found a cappuccino burned, tasting of coal, with poorly frothed milk, and another describes a long queue while staff chatted among themselves. One reviewer notes that staff helped when the cafe did not appear on a phone network's voucher map.

“The staff are all lovely in this branch, but Caroline stands out above them all. Her friendly tone and polite manner do not go unnoticed. She will go above and beyond and just brightens your day. She knows the regulars by name and will also ask how they are, what they are up to, and tells them to enjoy their day. She is a credit to this branch and company.”

“Great staff, at the time I posted this review, I had just switched to Three on my phone where you get a £1 coffee at Caffe Nero. The staff were really understanding of my situation where the particular cafe didn't come up on the Three map.”
