The Mill Wheel Bar
Quick info
About The Mill Wheel Bar
The Mill Wheel Bar is a pub in Cookstown, County Tyrone, on Dunnamore Rd in Dunnamore. Pints are served at the bar, and Magners comes in small bottles rather than pints. Music plays in the bar, including on Friday nights. The food menu keeps to straightforward dishes served hot, with a turkey and ham plate on offer and chicken pieces as a starter. Portions are big. At busy times the tables can all be taken and arrivals wait for one, and the bar area gives them somewhere to have a drink in the meantime.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to The Mill Wheel Bar most for the food, describing it as delicious, hot and straightforward, with big portions that would fill any hungry traveler. Close behind is the staff, called friendly, helpful and accommodating, with one family noting a staff member who gave them drinks. The pints come next, with one reviewer praising solid, creamy pints and another enjoying a couple on an overnight stay. Music and a good stir on a Friday night get a mention too, along with a lively bar that suited a birthday dinner and a family outing. The caveats are small but specific. One diner arriving at a busy time was quoted a long wait for a table, then seated after a drink at the bar, and found the seating awkward for passing. The same reviewer called a two-piece chicken starter miserable, and said slices of ham on the turkey and ham plate were undercooked and chewy enough to be put into a napkin, though everything else on the plate was lovely. Another reviewer's only complaint was that Magners came in small bottles rather than pints.

“Enjoyed a couple of lovely pints here on an overnight stay. There was a good stir on a Friday night with music starting as we had to depart unfortuneately. Didn't avail of the food service.”

“Great atmosphere in the bar, friendly and very very busy, no free tables when we arrived told possibly 1.5 hr wait we said we would wait and have a drink in the bar, got our table after 25 min, clean and in view of tv. Seating alittle awkward as seems difficult for customers and staff to pass, my daughter has to continually jerk her chair in. All food was good and very tasty, only two chicken pieces as a starter which looks miserable for £5.95. I had turkey and ham, the ham was not cooked completely i tried two bites from different slices and honestly was like chewing a rubber band, 1st and 2nd bite had to be put into my napkin as they both were undercooked and very chewy. All the other items on my plate was lovely and very tasty for £13.95.”

“We loved this place. So friendly. Decent music playing. The bar was authentic and comfortable service was good and helpful. The menu was varied with good choices of straightforward food served hot . I just wish we could have taken it back home with us. I am determined to go back there when we next visit Northern Ireland.”
