About Norham Coffee House
Norham Coffee House is a coffee shop in Cockermouth, found down an alley behind a cake shop at 73 Main St. Children get play areas indoors and outdoors, including one for pre-school age, so families can bring young ones along. The owner bakes two Scones of the Day fresh each day, and the scone range includes a herbed scone and a caramel fudge scone. Cakes, tray bakes and sandwiches fill out the menu, and the cakes and much of the rest are home-made. Lunch includes Cauliflower and Brie soup, and a two course menu is offered. Specials are flagged up on the wall. The shop opens Monday to Saturday, daytime only, and closes on Sundays. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Scones draw the most praise, with reviewers describing two freshly made scones of the day, including a caramel fudge scone, and a herbed scone served with cauliflower and Brie soup. Close behind are the cakes and tray bakes, a good value two course menu, and simple lunches such as double eggs and chips with runny yolks and crisp chips. A jacket potato with beans also gets a mention. One reviewer called the oat milk cappuccino lush, and another praised the hot chocolate. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and lovely, and one reviewer's dogs enjoyed their sausages. Reviewers also point to the garden courtyard and the play areas for children indoors and out, reached down an alley off the main street. On the downside, one diner said the food took a little time to arrive, and a vegan reviewer found the choice limited. A group of ten arrived unannounced, sat outside and were served quickly, and the manager insisted the modest bill was right when they questioned it.

“Really good food and lovely, welcoming staff! Highly recommend this place and would suggest getting a caramel fudge scone if they have them - amazing! 😋”

“10 of us turned up unannounced and we all sat outside. Great staff who helped us through the available options. We were served very quickly and smoothly. The scones were excellent, as were the cakes and tray bakes and sandwiches. Good coffee and tea and 1st class hit chocolate. Our bill came yo a very modest £55. We insisted that it must be more but the manager insisted do that is what we paid (plus tip). The cafe is down an alley ioff the main street, behind a fancy cake shop. It's well worth a visit and somewhere I will return. It also has small play area for the kids but that didn't apply to our group. It is near the major car parks and shops.”

“We went to this little place, tucked away behind the main street down a narrow passageway, for a light lunch. We decided on double eggs and chips because it was simple, light and relatively good value. We had a brief conversation with the woman who served us (presumably the owner) about the local area and she was very pleasant and conversational. The food took a little time to arrive (we were hungry, and to be honest, a little impatient!), but when it did, we were not disappointed with what we received. The eggs were nice and large, with bright runny yolks, and properly cooked --solid whites, runny yolks (how many times are eggs served snotty?). The chips were well cooked, crisp, freshly cooked and generous. The chips were served on a plate, not in a stupid basket, or ramekin, to make it look like there are more than actually there. For such a simple meal, the food was nicely cooked and well presented, without pretense.”
