About The Golden Cross
The Golden Cross is a pub and gastropub at 20 Black Jack St in Cirencester, set in an inn from the 1700s on a medieval street. A log fireplace stands in the bar, and simple rooms upstairs let the business work as a bed and breakfast for overnight stays. The bar pours two cask ales alongside a guest lager, and its extensive layout breaks into several smaller seating areas. The kitchen works from a menu of 57 dishes, including Salt & Pepper Squid, Chicken Liver Parfait and Roast Chicken Breast, and a specials board runs alongside it with pork belly among the choices. Homemade pies are also served. The dining area has its own log burner.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food, with homemade pies served piping hot and an ox cheek shepherd's pie singled out, plus gammon, egg and chips and a pork belly special. The log burner and courtyard draw praise too. One longtime visitor was disappointed, though: a cloudy cask ale and a vinegary one, then a vinegary guest lager, leaving only Madri.

“Been here many times over the years and always found it to serve a good pint, however, our last visit on 20th June was not good. We tried the two cask ales on offer, one remained cloudy despite the server telling us it should clear, the other had a vinegary taste/smell. My husband persevered with his cloudy one, but I ended up taking mine back to the bar. I chose a guest lager to replace it, but it was also vinegary so that went back as well. The options left were limited - we ended up drinking Madri (slim pickings!). I’m sorry to say this visit has put us off visiting again. Maybe better maintenance of the cellar and beer lines are in order.”

“Had a lovely lunch here. Not busy so didn't have to book. Sat by the log burner which made it very cosy. Menu was varied and there were specials on the board. We ordered a large Pepsi and a blackcurrant squash to drink. For food we ordered the pork belly from the specials and a leek and potato soup. All for £33. The food was delicious and hot. Definitely would come here again.”

“Very nice, extensive bar area, loads of smaller seating areas and a great outside seating area. Service was friendly. We staying in the family room top floor, its specious and very nice, although the steep stairs are restrictive for some. Well worth a stay and take in Cirencester and surrounding Areas”
