About Cat & Fiddle Hinton Admiral
Cat & Fiddle Hinton Admiral is a bar and grill on Lyndhurst Rd in Christchurch, in a building with over 400 years of history that includes a spell as an 11th-century hospice and a later role as a meeting place for smugglers. The kitchen cooks seasonal pub classics, and cask ales run alongside the food. Roast lunches come with choices such as pork belly or a trio of roast meats. Sides arrive as a selection of three, and the gravy is bottomless. Dogs are welcome, which suits walkers stopping in with a pet. The pub stands on the main road next to a Texaco petrol station, a short walk from the Cat and Fiddle campsite.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the Sunday roasts, and the pork belly is the dish named again and again, alongside the trio of roast meats with bottomless gravy. Pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese and red cabbage come up as sides, and the Pimms trifle, banoffee cheesecake and mini puddings get a mention for dessert. One diner praises the katsu rice bowl and another a pint of Aspall. Staff are described as friendly, and the large garden where kids can play draws comment, as does the dog-friendly welcome. Complaints centre on the kitchen and pace. One diner waited about three quarters of an hour on a quiet Sunday evening for roasts that arrived lukewarm, with hard potatoes, soggy green beans, and no baked apple or parsnip. Others note a slow acknowledgement at the bar, a staffing shortage, a very small side of greens, and dishes unavailable on the Weekend Treat Menu. One visitor found cauliflower cheese had run out by 3pm, which they accepted given how busy it was.

“Zero Judgment, Pure Hospitality: A Genuine Sanctuary Trust me. Take an immediate left after Texaco petrol station for good food but honest ambience and lovely staff. They have a garden, relaxed pub as well as area for large family to eat. If your hungry or the kids, drop here. I don't leave many reviews but do follow up on this if you agree. The storey: It’s easy to cruise right past given the main road and petrol station next door, but pulling in was the best decision I’ve made and I have continued to come here even just for one drink. Staying at the nearby campsite Cat and Fiddle and 2mins walk way is what I needed as a quiet spot to sit, refuel, and gather my thoughts—and the team here made all the difference. Thank you to - Charlotte - Jess - Adrian In particular. 😊 Even with constant pass-through traffic, the staff show a level of genuine warmth, non-judgmental care, and attentiveness that is exceedingly rare. You can walk in in any state of mind, and you are welcomed with open arms and complete respect. Pro tip for wine lovers: Have a word with the team at the bar about their wine list, there are hidden Bins 😉 at incredible value too. Beyond the standard menu, they are incredibly knowledgeable and can guide you toward some hidden gems—from top-tier English sparkling like Chapel Down to vintage Bordeaux 2019 won't name the label but was shocked at reasonablnesa —at surprisingly fantastic value. Great food, miles above general corporate owned places which is absolutely differentiated by the standard-setting hospitality, and people who truly care about their customers . If you’re driving past or heading home, don’t just keep going—pull in. Bikers, families, throse who appreciates a 2019 Bordeaux or Chapel Rose, all appear to be cared for.”

“Very friendly waitress, great service. Side of greens was very small but enjoyed everything else. Quite a few dishes unavailable on the Weekend Treat Menu.”

“A family meal at 18.30. The place was pretty quiet with about 1/3 of tables booked. Greeted in entry and shown to our reserved table. The service was prompt, attentive and very friendly. The food was exceptionally good. I cannot fault any aspect of the evening, I'd book again in an instant.”

“We recently visited the Cat and Fiddle for Sunday lunch . We were welcomed at the door by very friendly staff. We chose to sit outside and eat as it was a lovely day. We ordered a roast beef, a pork belly and a trio of meats roast , as well as a selection of 3 sides cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets and red cabbage ( other options available) great value for £10 for 3. Our food was delicious. Gravy was very tasty and bottomless. Nice selection of green vegetables came in a bowl on the side ,carrots and parsnips on the plate. After a little break we couldn't resist a dessert. We had the Pimms trifle and a banoffe cheese cake, both again.. delicious. The manager and all staff were very friendly, happy and helpful. We will definitely be back.”

“We saw this elegant, aesthetically pleasing pub on route to bournemouth beach today (Bank Holiday Monday) whilst in stand-still traffic. On our way back from the beach 8 of us thought we’d come and give it a go. In 30 degree heat after a day at the beach I had the pork belly and it was stupendously delightful, I also quenched my thirst with a crisp refreshing pint of aspall which was to a perfect temperature. What a delightful experience but the only let down was that there was a staffing shortage but i understand this is uncontrollable for the workers and i would hate for that to bring down my positive experience.”
