About Lion Rock Tea Rooms
Lion Rock Tea Rooms is a tea room on The Cliffs in Cheddar, spread over several levels with themed rooms that include a library, a diner and a vintage room, plus a rooftop garden. Loose-leaf tea comes in a proper teapot, and the menu covers afternoon tea and cream tea, the combination of a scone with sandwiches. Separate gluten-free and vegan pages sit alongside the main menu, and gluten-free dishes come out with GF flags. Sandwiches cannot be toasted for gluten-free orders because of contamination. Tables can be booked in advance. The kitchen stops serving warm food before closing time.

Customer Review Summary
Afternoon tea and cream tea with a warm scone draw most reviewers, who describe the food as delicious and the portions as generous, with one group taking leftover cakes home and another receiving a sandwich of door stop size. Close behind is how well the kitchen handles dietary needs. Diners praise a menu with a full page for vegans and a separate gluten free section, plus a warmed gluten free scone, soft bread and orders arriving with gluten free flags. Loose-leaf tea in a proper teapot, a cheese board and a milkshake also get singled out, and the garden seating and themed rooms, including a library, diner and vintage room, earn warm mentions. The recurring caveats are practical. One reviewer found the pie crust too thick, one notes the café spreads across several levels, which could be hard with limited mobility, and another says the kitchen stops serving warm food before closing. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and one guest who booked ahead said it was probably crucial because Cheddar was heaving.

“I was treated to afternoon tea here yesterday by my family and would certainly visit again. The afternoon tea was delicious and there was so much food, we couldn’t eat it all so we ended up taking some of the cakes home to enjoy later. Others in our party ordered meals which they all thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I would definitely recommend and we will come here again when we are next in Cheddar”

“Very sweet little café/tearoom with charming themed rooms, including a library, diner and vintage room. It was the perfect treat after walking Cheddar Gorge in the summer heat! We had the afternoon tea, and the staff were fantastic at accommodating our dietary requirements, adapting everything for us without any fuss. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the loose-leaf tea served in a proper teapot was a lovely touch. The staff were friendly, service was quick, and the whole experience felt welcoming and relaxed. The only thing worth noting is that the café is spread across several levels, so it may not be the easiest to navigate if you have limited mobility or struggle with stairs.”

“Always on the search for places that serve Gluten free food and this place was a great find. Such fantastic service and food! The menu has a completed separate GF section and has a great selection and portion sizes too. The staff were very knowledgeable and would definitely go back there again, the GF scone was warmed up and the bread was really soft both were delicious (best cheddar cheese😋). My food came out with GF flags too so was clearly labelled too 👍🏼 They can’t toast your sandwich just to contamination so was really impressed with how serious they took my order. My husband’s cream tea wasn’t GF and he was also impressed with his portion and quality of his cream tea. Lovely place to sit back and enjoy some peace and quiet with a cuppa.”

“It is very small when you enter the cafe. We were seated upstairs. It has a real quirkiness to it, it is great! The toilet is outside and there is seating with beautiful flowers. The food was good. The crust on the pie was a bit too thick for me. The kid's afternoon tea looked great, small but cute. Service was great from start to finish.”
