About ULAROO
ULAROO is an Australian chain sports bar in Carlisle, found at 6 Botchergate, where surfboards and other decor cover the interior walls. Screens throughout the bar show major sports, so match days are a natural fit. The food menu is short, with a beef burger and fries among the dishes. A bottomless brunch gives the bar a daytime draw, and themed party nights bring a different format to the evenings. A pool table gives groups something to play between rounds. The bar is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the staff, with bartenders praised as friendly, quick with drinks and funny, and a server at a bottomless brunch who let a group modify drinks that were not on the menu. Close behind is the lively night out, with great music, a busy crowd and sports on the TVs most nights. One visitor found some screens at questionable angles and the place pretty empty. Others mention a beef burger with fries, a pint of Strongbow, a pool table and the surfboard decor. One reviewer calls the drinks selection mainstream, and another could not eat because the kitchen had closed on Champions League final day. The sharpest complaint comes from one reviewer who says the bouncers did not check IDs, told her to have some respect for herself on Halloween, and would not let a friend back in to collect their things. One guest recalls a bartender swapping his neon green flip flops for her struggling high heels.

“Sadly did not get to eat - on Champions League Final 2026 day - the kitchen had closed - presumably after serving what looked to be a huge stag party. Staff friendly and the atmosphere was adequate- despite a somewhat sterile/ American bar feeling too it.”

“The old Walkabout in the middle of Carlisle. Very much with the same vibes and clientele. It's big and well located. The staff are nice and helpful. Mix of other patrons in there will depend on the night / luck. Selection of drinks is rather mainstream and nothing special. Sports screen throughout, showing the major stuff. Some are at questionable angles. Might have a buzz to it, with younger people in there (if you are looking for that) on weekend nights, was pretty empty when I visited. It passable, but nothing amazing”

“The bouncers didn't check our IDs and while I was in the patio area, I was told by a bouncer to have 'some respect for myself' even though there were many people wearing much less than me as it was Halloween. Also, my friend wasnt allowed back in after having fresh air and was unable to get their things. The bouncers were incredibly unprofessional and were acting like they were on a power trip instead of prioritising the safety of the customers.”

“Had an absolute blast at Walkabout! The energy was on point — great music, lively crowd, and solid drink options. What really stood out was the service — Thalia behind the bar was incredible. Super friendly, quick with the drinks, and just a great vibe all around. She really made the night feel even more fun. Can’t wait to come back!”
