Quick info
About The New York Deli
Family-run and independent, The New York Deli is a deli in Cardiff, at 4-6 Duke Street Arcade. The menu centres on a vegan Reuben, a pastrami bagel and Philly cheesesteaks. Bagels come with a wide variety of fillings, and hoagies and other sandwiches are made generously. Cheesy fries sit alongside them as a side. The vegan range is joined by other dietary options, so a group with mixed diets can order from the same counter. Coffee and unusually flavoured drinks round out the menu. The deli runs on a walk-in basis, with no reservations. Orders are placed at the counter, and there are seats inside for eating in.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the huge, generously filled sandwiches and bagels, from the pastrami bagel to the hoagies and Philly cheesesteaks, with several saying the toppings keep coming and the portions justify the price. Close behind are the friendly counter staff and the coffee, described as excellent and really good. The vegan range draws a loyal following, with one reviewer returning for it over the years and another praising the vegan Reuben. Cheesy fries and fries compared favourably to Five Guys also earn mentions, along with unusually flavoured drinks. Not everyone agrees on quality. One reviewer found the salt beef Reuben tasted of nothing, like ready made ingredients thrown together, and said the price did not match what Cardiff market offers. Another felt the pastrami bagel was so overstuffed that the flavours suffered. Several appreciate being able to sit in and eat, and one reviewer says to skip breakfast before coming for lunch.

“Amazing Philly Cheesesteaks here and the fries are better than five guys 👌. Great range of unusualy flavoured drinks also. Highly recommended if you're looking for a place for lunch in Cardiff!”

“The best bagel I've ever had. You definitely get your moneys worth here as the toppings just keep coming and coming. Full of flavour and texture. Will be coming back loads.”

“Stopped here for lunch. Had the pastrami bagel and flat white. Coffee was excellent. Bagel was very good but over filled. I feel the flavours suffer when a sandwich or bagel is stuffed to bursting. Deserves a 4.5. Seemed to have a wide variety of sandwiches and bagels. A point worth mentioning is that you can sit in and eat unlike some sandwich places which is grab and go.”

“Got a Ruben. £10 and it’s was a huge sandwich! If you want something simple and big, you’re sorted. Just didn’t taste of anything. Tasted like ready made ingredients thrown together rather than a salt beef Ruben. Really disappointing unfortunately. For a tenner I could have gone to Cardiff market and got something better quality for a better price.”

“Great food and really good coffee. The people inside are really friendly and overall this place is a must if you need some lunch. Forget the subway nearby, this is much better value and better food”
