About Café des Amis
Café des Amis is a Mexican restaurant at 95 St. Dunstans St in Canterbury, where the menu pairs Mexican cooking with Mediterranean dishes. The diner is colourful and hung with modern artworks. Duck fajitas are the lead dish, and the nachos are a plate for sharing at the table. Paella and gambas in garlic represent the Mediterranean side, and a chicken verde dish rounds out the mains. The cocktail menu includes a passion fruit margarita with chilli, and dessert options include sorbet and a chocolate dessert. The restaurant opens daily, and reservations are required. It sits close to Westgate.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the duck fajitas, called "simply the best" by one regular and praised as crispy or confit by others. Close behind are the nachos, the paella, and the pollo verde, with the gambas, spinach tacos, pork enchiladas, and sorbet also named. A passion fruit margarita with chilli and a wide cocktail list draw mentions too, and one reviewer says the kitchen caters well for coeliacs. Service is described as friendly, helpful, and efficient even when the room is busy, and several note the cute decoration and long-standing regulars who say they have never had a bad meal. The one real complaint is a single reviewer's: the beef nachos were overcooked and did not taste good, and the kitchen could not offer refried beans alongside the beef they ordered. Another reviewer says the chicken burrito needed a bit of tomato salsa. Two suggest booking ahead because the place is busy, and a diner celebrating a husband's birthday left with crispy duck fajitas as the meal they call spot on.

“Charming as ever. I've been visiting this restaurant since it opened in the early 90s. Not much has changed; it's chilled out, has great food. Service is excellent (although clearly busy). If you're visiting, definitely book ahead.”

“Excellent service from Charlotte. Caters very well for coeliacs. We shared the paella and it was 10/10”

“Had a lovely time. The gambas were delicious and soaked with the spices, the bread was a delight. Enjoyed the spinach tacos and the pork enchiladas. The confit duck fajitas and the nachos are great to share. Lovely service and good energy to be around.”

“Love the food especially Paella and sorbet, very delicious! Found this restaurant as it was recommended on google so my friend and I chose to eat here and didn’t disappoint at all. The decoration is also cute, it feels like we are in the “coco” animation. Moreover, recommend to call for booking in advance because it’s pretty busy.”
