About The Foundry Brewpub

The Foundry Brewpub is a microbrewery at 77 Stour St. in Canterbury, and Canterbury's only grain-to-glass brewery and distillery, working out of a historic Victorian foundry building. Beer is brewed on site, with cask and keg pours alongside cider and lager, and a flight of five of its own beers is available for tasting. The distillery side makes spirits on the premises, including gin. The kitchen serves pub food, from a burger with bacon and stilton cheese to a sharing platter of ribs, chicken wings and onion rings. Family owned and run, the business offers brewery and distillery tours and whisky tastings, which are booked through its website, and tables can be booked for meals. Large tables are set up for groups dining or joining a tour.

Customer Review Summary

The brewpub's own beer is what most reviewers return for, from a flight of five beers and a beer tasting to the in house lager and a strong porter, with several praising the range and the staff's advice on what to order. Food comes close behind, including a burger with bacon and stilton, a steak pie, a beef brisket sandwich and a pub sharing platter of ribs, wings and onion rings. One reviewer ordered the cheesy garlic bread twice. Portions are repeatedly called huge, and staff are described as friendly, helpful and welcoming even when busy. A few small complaints appear: the mains arrived a little less hot than hoped, the onion rings were called mid, and one reviewer found the barbecue sauce too much and suggests having it on the side. One group bought a gift pack of the gins to take home to Australia, and another planned a return visit just to buy more of the home brewed gin.

“Fabulous food. Beers are great. Love that it’s a family owned and run business using locally sourced ingredients where possible. The staff are lovely even when they’re being run off their feet. Bought a gift pack of the gins to take home so we can sample their wares in Australia.”
  • Sarah Jerrell
“Really fantastic experience here. Our Server was kind, relaxed, knowledgeable, and allowed for us to split a bill that was inconvenient for him without any hint of remorse about it. He also gave us recommendations for things to do around Canterbury which was much appreciated! Food was delicious and tender. We got the Pub sharing platter. The ribs, chicken wings, and onion rings were my favorite. I’d recommend getting the bbq sauce on the side because it was a little too much for me personally”
