Quick info
About Fin Boys
Fin Boys is a seafood restaurant at 2 Mill Rd in Cambridge, where the chefs serve the food directly from an open kitchen and there are no waiters. Seating is at the counter around the kitchen, so diners sit in front of the team as dishes are prepared. The tasting menu is mostly cold seafood dishes, with a wine flight or wine pairing available, and an à la carte menu runs alongside it. The fish-focused list includes turbot en croûte, gurnard and torched trout. Reservations are required. The restaurant has been running for five years and now also serves meat dishes next to the seafood.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the prawn toast, named as a highlight in several reviews, with the Orkney scallops close behind and described as perfectly cooked. Also praised are the stone bass, turbot en croûte, torched trout and desserts such as the Basque cheesecake, blood orange meringue pie and sake granita. Many took the tasting menu, some with a wine flight, and describe watching the chefs prepare dishes from seats at the counter, with friendly, enthusiastic staff. Wine pairings and the Golden Sun cocktail draw praise. The recurring caveats are smaller. One reviewer found the crab soup served boiling hot, the tuna tostada overwhelmingly spicy, and the smoked eel on rice over seasoned with undercooked rice, and said a staff member shrugged off the spice complaint. Another calls it pricier but says the quality justifies it, and wishes for a set menu built from the regular dishes. One notes the reds were less carefully chosen than the other wines. One diner walked in for lunch just before closing and was still accommodated.

“Deserving of 1 - 2 Michelin stars. Definitely a hidden gem in Cambridge. We enjoyed every moment. The staff are fabulous and passionate about their work and the food. The open kitchen with seats around the area a win / win. The wine paring a huge bonus as we experienced wines not experienced before and so that is a mind opener. A huge Thank you to all and so looking forward to the next experience.”

“Just had a standout lunch and I already cannot wait to go back. These people are genuine masters of fish. They understand the ingredients completely, but what elevates the whole experience is how they draw on global cuisine influences to create something that feels both refined and adventurous. The prawn toast is an absolute must-order, and the truffle and Orkney scallops were simply sublime. The Golden Sun cocktail is sublime. It is not just the food that impresses. The cocktail and wine list is superb, and the room itself is gorgeous fabulously sexy design, laid out beautifully. Sitting up at the counter watching the team work, seeing true craft in action, made it a real lunchtime treat.”

“No fuss, no trying too hard to impress just people focused on doing their job well. Everything is cooked fresh right in front of you, and you can see how clean and well run the place is. We tried a few different fish dishes and everything was genuinely delicious. Such a modest, simple place, but the quality and flavour really surprised me. Sometimes the best places don’t need to show off. Highly recommend”

“Had a really lovely tasting dinner here and have wanted to try for ages. Tasty and fresh fish, full of flavour. The staff were friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. Particular highlight for me was the Sake Granita, a really unusual mix of flavors (peach, cream and honeycomb). Highly recommend.”

“Amazing Place. Can’t believe this place doesn’t have a Michelin star. The dishes are creative the flavours well balanced. Service friendly no fuss. We walked in for lunch just before 14:30 and they still accommodate us. Respect. Well done Fin Boys Team.”
