About The Rock Shopping Centre

The Rock Shopping Centre is an open-air shopping centre in Bury, on Goodall St., with a VUE cinema on site so a film can fit alongside a shopping trip. The shops mix high-street chains such as H&M, Primark and M&S with some independent stores. Iceland and The Range cover food shopping. For meals and coffee, the centre has restaurants and cafés including Nando's, Pizza Express and Caffe Nero. The layout is outdoors, so there is little protection from the weather in wet conditions or winter. Drivers can use the multi-storey car park joined to the centre.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come for the range of high street shops, naming H&M, Primark, River Island and Marks and Spencer, with The Range, Iceland and a cinema alongside, and one notes independents mixed in with the chains. Close behind is the parking, which several call plentiful. Others mention the places to eat, including Nandos, Pizza Express and Caffe Nero, and the activities for kids. A few describe the centre as clean and modern. The criticism is specific. One reviewer says it has gone downhill, with the H&M, Primark and River Island stores feeling like charity shops with no sizes left unless someone is a bigger size. Another says many smaller stores close at 17:30, calls the multi-storey car park expensive next to the cheaper council car parks nearby, and warns that the outdoor layout gives little protection in wet weather. One reviewer recounts collapsing outside Waterstones, where the manager and staff were there in no time, looking after them and sorting out an ambulance.

“Used to be a good place to shop here... gone down hill a lot over the years. Nothing special for shopping, just the usual H&M, Primark and River Island. All felt like charity shops with no sizes left unless you were a bigger size.”

“I had a bad heart episode and was on the floor outside Waterstones and the manager and staff were there In no time, looking after me and sorting out an ambulance, members of the public also helping. It was all deeply appreciated. John.”

“The Rock Shopping Centre in Bury is a clean, modern, outdoor shopping and leisure centre, featuring a good number of brands, restaurants and a VUE Cinema. Brands located here include Nandos, Loungers, Pizza Express, The Range, Marks and Spencer, JD Sports, Superdry, Caffe Nero and Pandora - it’s a pretty nice range. Larger shops usually stay open until 7 pm/8 pm during the week, which is handy for a smaller town, although it is a shame to see many of the smaller stores close as early as 17:30, which I feel leads to disappointment and inconsistency, especially as I’m the sort of person who likes to head out in the afternoon and evenings. The multi-story car park is expensive, with rates starting at £2.1 for up to two hours, while rates are more reasonable on a Sunday, where they charge £1.50 for the whole day, and it’s free after 6 pm. There are many car parks operated by the Council nearby, which are cheaper, especially for shorter stays. It’s easy to get around and find what you need, and it’s certainly not bad for a smaller town, although be careful visiting in the winter, and during wet weather, as there isn’t much protection and it can be unpleasant.”
