The Apple Tree Coffee Lounge
Quick info
About The Apple Tree Coffee Lounge
At Barton Marina in Burton On Trent, The Apple Tree Coffee Lounge is a coffee shop that doubles as a deli and breakfast spot. The kitchen works through a menu of around 70 dishes, with a New York deli sandwich served alongside a side salad among the lunch options, plus cakes, sandwiches and lighter plates through the day. Coffee runs from espresso and americano to flat white, cappuccino and latte, with a cafetière for those who want a pot at the table. The tables fill up and are often pre-booked, so a seat can involve a wait at peak times, while later in the afternoon they come free more easily. Food and drink reach the table quickly once an order goes in. Dogs are welcome, and the doors open every day of the week.

Customer Review Summary
The New York deli sandwich draws the most comment, praised by one visitor as reasonably priced and well made with a side salad and vegetable crisps, though another found it mainly bread with a single slice each of meat and cheese and a sauce they disliked. Close behind sits the speed and friendliness of service, which several describe as quick even on busy Saturdays. Also singled out: a croque madame with soup, hummingbird cake and a Nelson square, hot chocolate that seemed made from real chocolate, and marina views. Price is the recurring sticking point, one party of four totalled over sixty pounds and objected to a large black coffee, a bottled orange juice and a tuna item served on a baguette rather than a panini, while another notes the full English is not the cheapest. Several mention how busy it gets and that lunchtime tables are largely pre booked, and one reviewer kept their coat on indoors.

“Very small portions, very little filling in my sandwich, tiny bit of salad and very expensive for what we got. I had the new york deli sandwich which had one slice of meat and one slice of cheese, a slice of gherkin and sauce which didn't taste nice. It was mainly bread. The salad on the side was pathetic one cherry tomato, one slice of cucumber and a very tiny amount of rocket. I also had a large black coffee which I certainly wouldn't call large which was nearly £6. There was 4 of us but only 3 ate, so for 3 meals and 4 drinks it came to over £60. My daughter had an orange just in a small bottle which was over £4 I vould of bought 4 litre just for that price. My daughter had a tuna penini which was actually a baguette not a penini at all. Wouldn't ho back here again. Very costly for what you got.”

“Really nice place. Very busy. Service great. Food is also very tasty. Not the cheapest full english. I would say it was worth.”

“Decent breakfast. Lucky to get in even though there were loads of empty tables as they were mostly pre booked. Shouldn't need to keep coat on in a cafe, but a number of people did...”

“A second visit to the Apple Tree Coffee Lounge. I havnt been here in a whole year and it hasn’t changed. Still a beautiful place for a coffee, catchup, cake or light lunch. The service is great, the vibe is just perfect. Tables are spread out enough. There is free ample parking 🅿️. We weren’t waiting to be served or for our food. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Thank you 💫”

“Nice place and some good food, the service was excellent, I had a server called Jess, she did a great job. Really helped contribute to the feel of the restaurant, overall a great experience especially because I expected the service to be quite slow due to it being a Saturday as it’s usually very busy in these types of places!”
