About The Old Bank
On Market Place in Bungay, The Old Bank is a tea room set inside a former bank building, with the bank manager's old office kept on as a seating nook. The 14-item menu runs from Cream Teas to a Savoury Afternoon Tea, and the Afternoon Tea for Two is set up for sharing. Tea is joined by cakes and scones, cheese scones among them, and coffee comes from a cafetiere. In the evenings, smoked fish platters, cold meats, and cheese boards are served alongside cocktails and wine. The tea room takes walk-ins rather than bookings, and it opens Tuesday to Sunday, closing on Mondays. Dogs are welcome inside, with water and biscuits set out for them. Takeaway is also available for those wanting tea and cakes off site.

Customer Review Summary
Cheese scones and the smoked fish platter draw repeat praise at The Old Bank, with the mixed cheese and meat boards and a memorable Welsh Rarebit also singled out by diners. Several reviewers who knew the place under previous ownership describe the new management as a real turnaround, citing a curated cocktail menu, cafetiere coffee, and a warm, characterful atmosphere with live folk music some evenings. Dogs are repeatedly welcomed, with water and biscuits offered under the table, and portion sizes and value for money come up often as generous and fair. One dissenting account describes being served on a dirty cup and told the crockery is cleaned with chalk, leaving that reviewer off their food entirely. Most others close on the scones, the platters for two, and the wide tea selection as reasons they return.

“By the second dirty cup I was starting to worry. When the person serving said “ they need to wash in chalk for old cup it’s better” I was put completely off my food. Sadly you need to clean up your act”

“The best cheese scones - and a perfectly curated tiny and imaginative cocktail menu. Plus wonderful staff, good music and great vibes. Oh and the bank manager’s old office to hide in!!”

“The pics you will see when googling the old bank from the old management do not do justice to this place! Is a must go to in Bungay. Day time you can enjoy wonderful cakes and scones as well as other savoury things.. , the evenings are all an experience from 6-9 the place becomes even warmer and as welcoming, you can have lovely cocktails and wine, plus locally sourced smoked fish, cold meats and cheese boards that are outstanding, and tonight there is even a fantastic folk music group playing music all the way from Irleand to Scandinavia .. The new management has really turned this place around, the staff is super friendly and they do, yes, they do let you bring in your dog! Friendly, delicious, and great atmosphere, fabulous value for money! as I said a must in Bungay.”

“Popped in whilst visiting Bungay. Friendly welcome and service. Characterful place. 3 of us had a cafetiere of coffee which was very nice. Didn't eat but the menu looked good.”

How this listing is sourced
- Where the data comes from
- Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
- How it stays current
- Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
- How it is ranked
- Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
