About The Olive Shed

The Olive Shed is a Mediterranean restaurant and tapas bar in Bristol, on Princes Wharf, spread over two floors with a view across the harbour. The upstairs room faces south and catches the evening sun. The kitchen serves tapas-style small plates meant to be shared between the table, including battered or deep-fried anchovies and a Moroccan-inspired chickpea and hummus. Olives arrive with bread and olive oil. A Fish Market special of the day joins the daily specials. The drinks list centres on organic wine, alongside red and white sangria.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the tapas plates, with the deep fried anchovies named by several reviewers as a standout, alongside big olives, moist chorizo and prawns. Others point to the mussels, the wild mushrooms, calamari, padron peppers and a Fish Market special described as super fresh and really meaty. One suggests ordering plenty of bread for the mussels sauce. Reviewers also praise the organic Rioja wines and the red and white sangria, and several mention the harbour view from window tables and outdoor seating. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and one group of 30 said the food quality held up. One reviewer was less impressed, finding the platters and sides only ok, the coffee undrinkable and the lunchtime service slow in an empty room. One birthday diner who mentioned the occasion when booking was greeted with a complimentary glass of Prosecco.

“Awesome tapas joint in Bristol. Seriously tasty food. I just ate a lovely banquet deal, it’s my friends birthday. Si impressed with the food, the service is amazing too. Lovely people. Lovely food. Lovely booze. Also there’s loads of us (30 people) and the food quality is still high. As Arnie once said ‘I’ll be back’”

“Had a really enjoyable meal with some colleagues mid week. Having a tapas style enables more things to try and we all shared. The olives were big, the chorizo moist, the anchovies big. Do try the mussels, loads of sauce so get plenty of bread. We sat indoors upstairs, note it's south facing and much of the space gets all the evening sun but you can venture downstairs outside when a table is available. Will be back there soon as there's more to try”

“A long awaited re-visit to the Olive Shed and it lived up to our memories. Excellent tasty small tapas plates. We had the bread, olives and olive oil followed by Moroccan inspired chickpea and hummus, roasted padron peppers, calamari, delicious gambos, paprika chips and a succulent lamb and Baba ganoush all washed down with a bottle of sparkling wine. We had a table by the window and watched the evening's busy activities on the water. Great service from Erin, from the Greek islands, We'd happily recommend to our friends.”
