About Smokehouse

Smokehouse is a barbecue restaurant in Bradford at 93 Barkerend Rd, with a prayer space available for diners who need to pray during their visit. The menu is small and concise, built around smoked and grilled meat. Brisket sits alongside miso lamb chops, and a seafood platter gives a non-meat option. A drinks list of mocktails runs next to the food. Sides and sauces are charged separately from the mains, so they are added to an order as extras.

Customer Review Summary

Steak draws the most praise at Smokehouse, with diners describing a juicy, tender ribeye with mushroom sauce and another steak cooked beautifully. Close behind are the Wagyu beef sliders, the seafood platter and the dynamite prawns, which one reviewer suggests for starters. Brisket is where opinions split. One reviewer found it dry, another got a brisket burger with a soaked bun and mostly fat, and one family was told brisket and ribs had run out. The beef ribs fell off the bone, but their sauce tasted tangy, like ketchup. Several reviewers call the steaks expensive for the portions, noting small wings and a small burger, and sides charged as extras. Music comes up too, described as excessively loud by one diner and as explicit by a family who complained. Staff are widely called friendly, and reviewers describe a dry brisket taken off the bill and replaced with a steak, plus complimentary drinks when mocktails arrived late.

“I don't usually write bad reviews but when everything is 1* I think it deserves 1. Walked into the restaurant and was told to wait 5 mins for a table. So we thought ok no problem it will be busy. The wait was only 5mins so that was fine, they took us round the corner and seated us. I looked around there were just 2 tables that were taken up, rest of the tables were free. It was just 1 family who walked out, so not sure why we had to wait. We chose what we wanted and had to wait around 7/8 mins for the waiter to come and take our order. Anyhow the food came out quick quick. The chicken for the starters looked and tasted like it was the frozen packet ones. I ordered a brisket burger, when it arrived I saw lots of fat juice or whatever it was dripping and was covered on the plate, I picked the burger up and the bun was soaked in it. So slimy and falling apart. I called the waiter and told him he said he will take it back and get me another. Came back after 2mins so they changed the bun. I took a couple of bites and all it was was fat, there was no taste, literally nothing. After maybe 5 bites I left the burger. Literally no taste whatsoever. Chips were fine. They don't give e sauces as they are separate and yku have to pay for them. The lamb chops were not cooked properly and again full of fat, dont really think it was lamb, maybe mutton im not sure. If it cost half the price i still would not be happy as the food was absolute letdown. I walked out of their still hungry. Oh and there was loads of space for the waiter to stand and look around but he chose to literally stand next to our table and look around, we found that very weird and very uncomfortable.”

“The seating was very comfortable, and the restrooms were clean, but the music was excessively loud. The food was delicious, though the steaks were quite expensive.”

“I visited Smokehouse today with my family, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was completely unsuitable for families. Inappropriate songs containing swear words were being played throughout the restaurant. We complained once, and while the music was changed temporarily, the playlist soon returned to playing more inappropriate content. As a family dining out, this was extremely uncomfortable and not what we expected. To make matters worse, after being seated, we waited around 10 minutes before a waiter came over, only to be told that there was no brisket and no ribs available. It would have been helpful to inform customers of this much earlier, especially as these are some of the main items people visit a smokehouse for. The service continued to disappoint. Our food took approximately 45 minutes to arrive, and when it did, there were no knives or forks on the table. I ended up having to get them myself and reminded the staff that basic cutlery should be provided before food is served. What really left a bad impression was the response when we politely asked if some Islamic nasheeds could be played instead of the explicit music. We were told this wasn't possible because they had "English customers." This response was both surprising and disappointing, especially considering the restaurant is located in the heart of BD3 and there wasn't a single English customer in the restaurant at the time. It felt as though our concerns were dismissed rather than taken seriously. Overall, between the unsuitable music, unavailable menu items, long waiting times, poor service, and dismissive attitude towards customer feedback, I would not recommend Smokehouse to families. Sadly, this was not an enjoyable dining experience, and we won't be returning.”

“What an amazing experience and food. Originally chickened out trying the seafood, had the platter it was amazing. Bilweka the waitress recommended it. Glad she did. The price was worth it, friendly staff.”
