Quick info
About Chez Fred
Chez Fred is a fish and chips shop at 10 Seamoor Rd in Bournemouth, with a sit-down restaurant side. Unlimited chips come with the fish and chips, and the fillets are hake or cod. The lunch deal pairs cod and chips with a bread roll and butter, mushy peas and a drink, and tea or coffee refills are free with it. Curry sauce is also on the menu, and tartare sauce and ketchup carry no charge. A wait to get in is common, and the restaurant side fills soon after opening.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the cod or hake and chips, describing the fish as crispy outside, soft and juicy inside, and not greasy, with a generous portion. Close behind are the curry sauce and mushy peas, which several call delicious, and the lunch deal with unlimited chips, a warm bread roll and butter, a drink, and free tea or coffee refills. Tartare and ketchup come without a charge, and some say extra chips and peas were not charged for either. Service is repeatedly called friendly and quick. The recurring caveat is the crowd: reviewers mention queues at half eleven on a Tuesday, a wait on a Friday evening, and about twenty minutes for a family of five, though all say it was worth it. One notes the restaurant side was half full ten minutes after opening, and another says there are no parks or benches nearby for eating a takeaway. One reviewer who skipped the hotel breakfast was asked twice if they wanted more chips.

“Have to say - this was the best fish and chips I’ve ever eaten. We came on a Friday evening and there was a bit of wait, which is to be expected, but it was more than worth it! 100% recommend. The curry sauce and mushy peas were to die for 🤤🤤”

“The lunch deal is absolute value for money. £15 for prime cod, unlimited chips, bread roll and butter, mushy peas and free tea coffee refils. The cod batter was light and crispy full of flavour. A really enjoyable meal. Service was impeccable too. Get here early though, we arrived at 11.40am just 10 minutes after opening and the restaurant side was already half full.”

“They offer unlimited chips, they have lovely staff, they don’t charge for tartare and ketchup, they serve delicious fish..and they have a meal deal that includes a side, bread & butter, a drink with your food and a coffee or tea at the end. Hell yeah!! Oh and the curry sauce was award winning. I’ve never had a good experience at a sit down fish and chip place before today. Viva Chez Fred!! 🥇”

“Been to Chez a number of times now, friendly service, always tasty, always fresh, never oily like you would find with most Fish and chips establishments. Very, very busy and long queues so be prepared to wait a while but its worth the wait.”
