Customer Review Summary
The criticism is substantial, and about half the reviews are one-star. Ribeye and sirloin steaks were called bland and dry, and the Beasleys meat pies had hardly a spoonful of filling under thick pastry. A Mother's Day meal brought dirty glasses, bitter gravy, cold food, flat beer, and a kids' meal deal that lacked its advertised ice cream but was charged in full. Another visitor describes lukewarm coffee, a cake that never arrived, and a refund handed back wrong.

“I don’t generally like putting negative reviews, however, hopefully the owners will pick up on this as we’ve been visiting here a long time but recently standards have plummeted. When we visit, it could be just two of us for coffee and cake but if with friends the bill could easily be not too shy of £100 if not more. Meals have not been as good as previous but today is what has nudged me to write a review. When possible we always spend locally and use independent shop. I’ve run businesses over the year and employed people so am quite au fait with what required. This afternoon. 30/07/26 we called for coffee and cake. From the moment we approached the counter I could tell we were viewed as an interruption to their conversation as opposed to the is being reason they were there. Anyway, we ordered and were told it would be brought to us…….coffees eventually came which if I said mine was lukewarm I’d be exaggerating. We waited for the cake but none arrived, fair enough we all make mistakes. Went back to the counter prior to leaving to explain that the cake didn’t matter now so would like a refund…….what really annoyed me was there was no acknowledgement of me being there whatsoever, no thank you, no sorry, no kiss my arse or anything. They didn’t even look at me when handing back the refund…….and the refund was wrong as well. This might seem trivial, but with standards as they are now it will make us think twice about visiting again and may perhaps visit somewhere our custom might be appreciated. Ps I might be wrong but the cups seem smaller now……..and as per attached pic, they’re not even full. In summary, our bill was less than £20 on this occasion but another time could quite easily be £100+ if we are with friends. So much for supporting the local economy💁♂️”

“The 1st time we had been to Provenance, but we'd heard that they stocked Beasleys meat pies. I used to get Beasleys pies from the original butchers shop on a very regular basis. The meat pies advertised as Beasleys, are absolutely nothing like the original ones. They looked okay, although a lot smaller, as everything is these days, but it was the lack of meat in the pie, that was the most dissapointing. Hardly a spoonful of meat, thick pastry, my husband said it's one of the worst meat pies he's had, and at a cost of £3.30, the worst value. Avoid at all costs. Lovely meat and deli though.”

“⭐☆☆☆☆ Disappointing Mother’s Day visit – not worth the price We’d heard good things about Provence and were really looking forward to our Mother’s Day meal, so it’s a shame to be writing this. From the start, we were handed dirty glasses. The warm ham and pea salad starter arrived with an overcooked egg – not the end of the world on its own, but a sign of things to come. The main event was a roast dinner with gravy that was genuinely bitter, leaving a foul aftertaste. One dish was taken away, but the other was left to go cold while we waited. When the food did eventually come back, it was decent enough pub grub – but one was still cold. The kids’ meal deal didn’t include ice cream as advertised, and nobody mentioned it or offered a reduction until we brought it up ourselves – at which point full price had already been charged across the board. The beer was flat and £7 a pint, which is hard to justify given the overall experience. Service started pleasantly but our original waitress appeared to lose interest in our table entirely. Credit where it’s due – the lady from the deli counter who stepped in was lovely and clearly trying her best. All in for the best part of £100 on a day that should have been special. Cold food, bitter gravy, flat beer, and billing us full price for things we didn’t receive. We won’t be rushing back, which is genuinely disappointing.”
