About Toby Carvery Bolton
Toby Carvery Bolton is a carvery on Crompton Way in Bolton, housed in a historic building with an ornate staircase and throne-like chairs and surrounded by gardens. Those grounds and rooms also serve as a venue, since the team hosts weddings and receptions. The carvery offers a choice of meats, including turkey and gammon, served with roast potatoes, gravy and a choice of vegetables. Pigs in blankets come as a side. A breakfast buffet runs on an all-you-can-eat basis for those who come earlier in the day. Tables can be booked in advance. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the historic building itself, describing an ornate staircase, throne-like chairs, an impressive entrance and gardens, with one holding a wedding breakfast and reception there. Close behind is a friendly, welcoming team, with several praising the host, server and carver and a manager who showed a first-time visitor around. The carvery draws praise for a good choice of meats and vegetables and generous portions, especially the meat. The main complaint is inconsistent food and thin staffing. One diner on a Saturday night found dry gammon, turkey, mushy peas, carrots gone to sludge, cold roast potatoes and unheated pigs in blankets. A delivery order brought tiny slivers of meat, canned-tasting sweetcorn and charcoal roast potatoes. Another says turkey was dry and the mash watery, and one adds there is never enough staff. One celebrating a 30th birthday was given a chocolate fudge cake by the staff.

“Had a brilliant visit to Toby Carvery Watermillock and have to give a special mention to Josh, Annmarie and Georgia. The three of them were absolutely fantastic. Really friendly, welcoming and great at what they do. Even when it was busy, they still made time for us and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. It makes such a difference when you walk into somewhere and the staff actually make you feel welcome rather than just being another customer. They created such a good atmosphere and are a massive credit to the place. Great service, great people and definitely somewhere we’ll keep coming back to. Thanks again Josh, Annmarie and Georgia, you were brilliant! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“i had a meal booked yesterday at 2pm for me and my dad. There’s a woman who worked that afternoon with brown hair. I didn’t manage to get her name but i wanted to let you know that she is amazing. I’ve been to toby multiple times and i’ve had her help us two times now. She is the most welcoming server ive ever had and she does such an amazing job at making us feel comfortable. I hope this message finds the way to her because she deserves a lot of praise for her work. thank you for a good time.”

“So disgusting, hair in my mash, turkey was dryer than the Sahara dessert, the peas were shrivelled and had no colour, the mash was practically soup and my pigs in blankets came out 15 minutes after and were burnt. Under our table was what looked like a pile of dirt and looked like it was there for a long time. There was also cobwebs everywhere so vile.”

“We've been going to Toby Carvery Bolton for a couple of years now and every visit was a pleasure. The staff is always nice, the food is great, the place is clean and welcoming. I'd like to thank our host David, our server Maddie and our carver Kayleigh for today's meal. It is my 30th today and I've been given a chocolate fudge cake to celebrate. Thank you ever so much for making today even more special!”

“One of the worst carverys I've had in a long time. Really took advantage of the fact we had it delivered. Tiny slithers of meat, butterd corn than was 100% not buttered and straight out of a can and roast potatoes that were absolute charcoal. Not edible at all. Not worth the nearly £30 we spent in anyway. Will not order from here again. I advise go to a different one to be honest”
